Interesting. I think this will work:

You should log the expenses and purchases and equipment usage where they belong.  So equipment use and materials or parts consumption have to be in the correct process, because that is reality.  Before that people do need to log their purchases, which will create the financial contribution for them and put the materials into inventory so they can be consumed or used in a process.

We can work it out in the value equation to make the events done in M2 show up in the M3 distribution.  For example, you could create a separate bucket for the financial contributions from M2 work which uses the M2 process(es) as a filter.

If only time contributions are part of the M2 value equation, it won't pick up payments for consumables or financial contributions for equipment.

If there was time logged in the value flow back on the equipment or consumables, it might pull that into M2 - because time is included in the M2 value equation.  Probably could filter it out with types of work.

Anyway, I'm sure we can figure out how do make the value equations work.

I'm curious why you want to move this into M3?  What if M3 doesn't get paid?  And aren't you skewing people's income, since financial contributions to M2 will subtract from people's work income in M3?

Just my 2 cents, I'm not part of the governance on PVC.  Although interestingly, people who bought filament or contributed to the 3D printer aren't part of governance in PVC either, how are their interests to be represented?  Another case where policy has to be set at the Sensorica network level to coordinate across projects?

Thanks Bob and Lynn for the help offered.

We have a budget for materials, so I am not sure how to proceed in the NRP. In other words, people are spending $ with their credit cards and will get it back from the Milestone 3 payment. If people log the spending it will show as their contributions, but this will be reimbursed...

Please log all the equipment purchases and use in the processes for
this milestone. We want to make sure the value equation can find and
credit them.

Even the ones that are not used in the final version. Somebody bought
those, they were necessary for the process of elimination.

Hi Lynn,

The budget for materials is allocated in M3. We did have to spend $ to buy materials, but that was done after M2 was finished, and before M3 was paid. Yes, we took a risk in doing so, but I guess that's part of the game.
I don't think we should mix spending for materials with a design milestone. I don't think it would be a good idea to change the value equation for M3 now. There was no $ for materials in M2, and worked for what was promised. I think we should deal with it, as you described, in M3.

The value equation milestone for the materials is dependent on which
process they get consumed in, not when they got bought. So (if I
understand what you wrote correctly), all should be well.

(Lynn is out for awhile, so I am responding for her, but I think I
responded accurately.)
