Unfortunately,
dead novelists can publish forever. I'm all for a writer making money in the publishing biz. It's certainly difficult enough, so I can't say they don't earn it in some fashion. But this is ridiculous. I just can't see an author as a brand. Everything that goes into a writer's work is uniquely "them" in some way. Even a talented imitator isn't "you", no matter how much of your material - characters, settings, plot continuations - they use.
Could Picasso have done the same thing, so we'd always end up with new Picassos?
I don't like it, to say the least.
