Press Release #8: Tropical Storm Fay

A PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF PUTNAM COUNTY WHOSE WELL HEADS HAVE BEEN SUBMERGED UNDER FLOOD WATERS.
Due to recent flooding, loss of power, loss of pressure there may be possible contamination of your well or water distribution system.
n Boil all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.
n Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Bottled water may be used in lieu of boiling.
THIS NOTIFICATION WILL REAMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. A 2 SAMPLE BACTERILOGICAL SURVEY MUST BE COMPLETED IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT THE WELL SYSTEM HAS NOT BEEN CONTAMINATED WITH FECAL E-COLI. PLEASE CONTACT THE ENVIRONMENTAL SECTION OF THE PUTNAM COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS AT 386-326-3200
A flood watch is now in effect for Putnam County. The St. Johns River’s high tide will be at 8:30pm tonight, and water levels may rise three feet throughout the day. Putnam County has received 5-6 inches of rain and 6-8 inches in the southern portion of the County.
Shelter: Browning-Pearce Elementary School, 100 Bear Blvd, San Mateo, Fl 32187 is designated to receive evacuees who are living in flood prone areas. Staff will be available to open the shelter at 6:00pm, Friday, 8/22/08.
The Citizen Information Center is currently being staffed and the number to call is 386-329-1904. Further information will be forthcoming.
