Valentine’s Day: Tell the Philippine Government to have a heart! Stop torturing and detaining health care workers!
On Saturday, Feb. 6, the Philippine military and police illegally arrested and detained 43 community health care workers en masse. The doctors and health workers were held for several days without legal counsel or being allowed visits from family members. There are now reports that the workers were tortured, deprived of sleep, questioned for hours without a lawyer present, and are being held on trumped up charges—blatant violations of their human and civil rights.
The 43 health workers and doctors were undergoing health training to serve the vast majority of Filipino people who do not have access to healthcare. They should be treated like heroes! But instead, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her military are persecuting them.
Send Philippine Ambassador Willy Gaa and his staff a Valentine’s Day message, card or letter, telling them to STOP THE HATE and HAVE A HEART! Demand that the Philippine government release the 43 illegally tortured and detained health care workers and doctors! Reunite them with their families for Valentine’s Day!
