The Arts Kollective and AnakBayan Seattle presents Batas Militar: Remembering Martial Law in the Philippines.
On September 21, 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos issued Proclamation 1081, declaring martial law over the entire country. Under the president's command, the military arrested opposition figures, including Benigno Aquino, journalists, student activists, and labor activists. Newspapers were shut down, and the mass media were brought under tight control.
Come join us as we honor the memories of those who laid down their lives fighting for genuine democracy through Art Installation, Cultural Sharing's and Multimedia Presentations.
Doors open at 6:00 PM
