jquery is a package that makes things like HTML document traversal and manipulation, event handling, animation, and Ajax much simpler with an easy-to-use API that works across a multitude of browsers.
Note: After being implemented in version 1.12.0, the fix of this vulnerability was reverted in 1.12.3, and then was only reintroduced in version 3.0.0-beta1. The fix was never released in any tag of the 2.x.x branch, as it was reverted out of the branch before being released.
Seeing an outdated version? Make sure you're not using the "automatic version" links, like /jqueryui/1/..., but instead use URLs referring to exact versions. Due to concerns over caching and lack of compatibility between even minor versions, we have deprecated and stopped updating the automatic version aliases some time ago, so they will forever refer to an old version (in order to not break existing sites that still use them).
This will install jQuery to Bower's install directory, the default being bower_components. Within bower_components/jquery/dist/ you will find an uncompressed release, a compressed release, and a map file.
Aspects of the API that were changed in the corresponding versions of jQuery. Changes in jQuery 1.12 and 2.2 include performance improvements of the selector engine, manipulation of class names for SVG elements, support for the Symbol type and iterators added in ES2015, and a new hook has been added for filtering HTML.
Our author environment (6.5.9) is being flagged for the outdated version of JQuery (1.12.4-aem) in vulnerability scans. I understand that this is an Adobe-modified version and not the default 1.12.4 that has reached it's EOL.
All Telerik.Web.UI releases after R1 2019 include a custom jQuery version (1.12.4) that implements backports to address the known jQuery vulnerabilities. Although, we tried to upgrade to jQuery 3 that didn't go well due to Microsoft AJAX limitations in the ASP.NET WebForms framework, so we had to revert to jQuery 1.12.4.
As of R1 2019, Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX ships a custom jQuery 1.12.4, with backport fixes incorporated to eliminate known vulnerability issues for 1.12.4 version. If you do not want to stick with jQuery 1.12.4, configure the Telerik Ajax controls to use an external jQuery. You can disable the embedded jQuery library and include an external one as a replacement. This lets you use your own version for the $telerik.$ variable, which exposes the embedded jQuery library. You may have noticed that even though 1.12.0 was released back in July, there was never any announcement. We had several issues surrounding the release, some code issues, but mostly infrastructure issues. Because the infrastructure issues took so long to resolve, we decided to wait until the 1.12.1 release to officially announce 1.12.
These reported vulnerabilities in jQuery 1.11.1 and 1.12.4 - in most cases this is considered a false positive or an application logic flaw and the jQuery team gave in to peer pressure when implementing a fix. We've found a few bugs since the 1.12.0 related specifically to the new locale support, which are addressed in this release. There are also a couple of other fixes included - see below for full details.
