In follow-up to my email from earlier this week, please carefully review the following with regard to student travel for Global Design Teams.

ANY UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT thinking that they may travel to Cameroon (for PUP or Hydro) in Summer 2014 must do the following:

1.     Go to www.studyabroad.purdue.edu and “Program Search” and either search for programs in Cameroon or enter the SA#: 10507.

2.     Click on “Global Design Team: Cameroon” and select “Click here to enroll in this program!”

3.     Complete and submit the application.

4.     IMPORTANT: 24 hours after submitting the application you MUST log back into www.studyabroad.purdue.edu from the Home Page and navigate to “My Study Abroad”. You will see a green box. This is where you will submit your 100 word essay to apply for the $1,000 travel scholarship.

All of this must be completed by March 15. Given that the process is 24+ hours, please plan several days ahead.

No fees will be charged for applying, so there is no risk or commitment in completing the application. Anyone who is unsure about traveling should complete the application and the essay.

Once students are sure that they can/will travel:

1.     Students will register for the Study Abroad course (10507) via myPurdue.

2.     Students will be charged $1,950 by the bursar

3.     Students will then receive their $1,000 scholarship paid to their bursar account, so the total fee for travel will be $950.

NOTE: Students who fail to apply for the $1,000 travel scholarship will be billed the entire amount of $1,950.

With this $950 fee students will receive:

-          One credit hour of Study Abroad credit per week in Cameroon, with a maximum of three credit hours (pending completion of course requirements*)

-          Airfare to/from Chicago O’Hare

-          Ground transportation (shuttle to/from O’Hare and in Cameroon)

-          Lodging

-          Meals at ACREST

-          International travel insurance

Students will still be responsible for:

-          Immunizations

-          Visa fees

-          Any airfare overage incurred by departing from/returning to a location other than Chicago O’Hare

*Course requirements associated with the Study Abroad credit will be outlined in a syllabus made available prior to enrollment. In brief, they include attendance at the GDT Pre-departure seminar, completion of additional “Critical Thinking Exercises”, and completion of a post-course evaluation.
