I just received the following information from CGI U. It states that the top four spots will receive $1250 for their projects and the overall winner will receive an additional $5000.

That is to say, if we win this bracket competition, you would be traveling for (practically) free. Even if we don't win even if we don't make it to the final four, all money will go to reducing your travel fare!

Sign up now; the fundraising opens at noon today!

Patrick,

Congratulations on moving to the next round of the CGI U Commitments Challenge!

At this point, all 16 teams are seeded into a bracket of head-to-head match-ups, like the NCAA March Madness tournament. The top four projects will each receive $1,250 for their projects, and the winner of the bracket will receive an additional $5,000, courtesy of Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist and craigconnects.

The bracket competition begins today at 12:00 PM ET. Here’s how it works:

1. The 16 teams have been seeded at random. The match-ups are in the graphic below.

2. Whoever raises the most funds in each individual round moves on.

3. Fundraising totals start at $0 in each round. You get to keep your existing funds from the first round, and that total has now been added to your project summary, so your supporters know their funds have been counted.

4. Your individual project page (http://www.crowdrise.com/purdueuniversity-cgiu) will remain the same, but the main page (www.cgiu.org/challenge) will list who you’re competing against.

The first bracket round lasts until Monday, March 17 at 3:00 PM ET. We encourage you to engage your social networks far and wide about the bracket - and keep an eye on CGI’s social media for messages you can retweet.

Sincerely,

The CGI U Team

Dear Patrick,

Thank you so much for participating in the CGI U 2014 Commitments Challenge. The Challenge has been amazing and together we’ve raised over $50,000 for some really incredible programs. The Challenge ends tomorrow at 3:59:59pm ET and the winning team gets $5000 and they’ll be announced on stage during the Closing Plenary. So awesome.

Here are some quick reminders to be aware of as the Challenge wraps up…

  • Please obey the rules and remember that no donations can be made by individual team members. If you have any questions about this please contact us ahead of time to make sure you play by the book.
  • Quick special contest: The first team to raise $500 in the championship round will earn a homepage spot on CrowdRise.com next week once the Challenge is over - bringing more attention and donors to your Commitment to Action.
  • All donations must be processed by 3:59:59pm ET tomorrow - any donations that are still in process won’t count.
  • The Challenge was designed to help provide resources and increase awareness for some amazing developing projects. Although it’s a competition, everyone in the Challenge is working to make positive change in the world and there is no reason to try to game the system or bend any rules. Lets keep it a fair fight and have a strong finish to a great challenge.

Again, thank you so much for your participation.
