I agree with Aashima. In the US, one can easily tell that it is
extremely tough out here. Recession is far from over for International
students.
Some additional data points from talking to Krannert Students (mostly
2nd year) that may help folks here:
• Assistantship / Financial Aid
§ General Info: (Data I collected below is primarily for Indians with
Indian 'International' status at Krannert)
® 2008-2010 Batch - About 30% (~5-6 out of 20 Indians) had
assistantships before admission
® 2009: fewer got assistantship with admission ~15%
® Assistantship email comes a little later after initial admit email
~ 2 weeks
• Jobs:
§ In 2010, Among 20 Indians - 7 or 8 have Job
§ Slight uptick in interviews for Internationals in the last few
months
§ Since December to mid-march, no interviews
§ OPT will allow just 3 months after graduation to secure a job.
§ Previous H1-Bs (not sure if this is helpful to anyone here)
® They don’t go through the H1-B Quota
§ Last Year (2009 Graduating batch):
□ Around 70% eventually got jobs - soem settled for non-MBA type
jobs - online site numbers look believable (http://
www.krannert.purdue.edu/departments/gcs/Stats_-_MBA_Full_Tim.asp)
□ Around graduation, little less than half had something.
