out of memory error with android camera

hi guys,
so i use the bitmap returned from the camera and then run a couple of
algorithms on that bitmap but after the third image, i run out of
memory, and i have no idea how to go about freeing these bitmaps.
Does anyone have any ideas ?

Are all references to the bitmaps gone (set to null)? It might help
to force a garbage collection.
