Just an FYI we have $837 in dues sharing that we need to use by the end of June.

Considering the ongoing pandemic its unlikely we will be able to have any events soon so I asked if the university will roll this over to next year...was told its unlikely. Maybe we can host a virtual event and buy a bunch of schwag for next year then haha... Thoughts??

Is there a way we could help a Colorado Purdue Student, I think there could be students struggling and that may not be able to get Summer jobs.

I can email Jess and see if theres a way to buy them online. I am sure they would love the support right now. If we host some kind of zoom/remote event I bet we could then raffle a few things during that and save the leftovers for after the pandemic.

Dan - these dues sharing funds have to be used for things in relation to hosting an event (prizes, food purchases, etc). Unfortunately we cant just cut a check to someone.

I think supporting local businesses right now in the form of gift cards is beneficial to the places our club frequents.

As far as doomsday analysis goes, and this is a pretty conservative viewpoint, the assurances these businesses actually CAN open back up is something I’d want to at least be known as a possibility before dumping too much money into their giftcard program.

Other material raffle purchases are a good spend as well.

The money is always there…the pockets just change. So who gets the money in the event we don’t use it and lose it?

I just bulk-bought my staff a bunch of GrubHub giftcards which was easy and nice because I just had to share a code versus anything physical – so our inventory would be housed in a digital location on a Google Drive or otherwise.

I’m just throwing paint here – if you need someone to spend $837.00 quickly…

Put me in, coach!

Amazon! I like the GrubHub idea too. Covers multiple restaurant options. I have brewery clients offering “pay it forward beers” to cover costs now but redeem later. Hard to know who’s going to survive this.

Please don’t give Amazon or Walmart or Starbucks any money – I think it what Dan was saying.

GrubHub is a big boy too but it’s a conduit for our local businesses and allows alumni to select a restaurant near and dear to them.

So it sounds like we should plan some kind of remote/zoom event! That way we can buy a ton of stuff and then raffle a little off and hold the rest for after the pandemic.

Anyone have any ideas on what we could do for this? The only thing I could think of is if Bruce Barker does another at home stream next week we could do a group zoom - have a chat/networking thing before and then share his video so everyone can chat and enjoy his show together. Other ideas could just be a general network/happy hour type of thing...im not sure what else could be good. Maybe see if we could get someone to do a talk of some sort?

Icehouse confirmed they dont have a way of selling giftcards right now.

Bruce is having another show this thursday...so we could have a pre-show conference to let people chat and then raffle off a couple things then just share the show. Unless someone has a better idea or a local person that might want to speak. Since its already monday I guess its kind of last minute....but then again who the fuck cares noone will show anyways like the majority of our events 🙄

Hey all,

Just talked to Roy.  I think our best course of action is to hold off as long as possible.  If Icehouse opens up in the next 60 days, we buy gift cards from them.  If that's not an option (which I'm guessing is probably likely), then we look at stocking up on GrubHub or other local options that have benefited the Purdue Alumni Club over the years.  Want to make sure we can benefit the companies that have been friends of the Club!

Sounds good. Pulling together a virtual event without time to market is a waste of time. So hard right now.

Factotum has always been a great supporter of ours with a generous silent auction package every year for our spring event, networking and euchre partners and Purdue alum in their family. I’m supporting breweries with curbside purchases to help (them and me-ha) but how they all come out of this is a test of time. I’d love to take advantage of their “Beer it Forward” program but makes me nervous. Buy a $6 pint online discounted at $5 to be used at a later date. If you think you’d like to do this though, I’m sure it would be appreciated. In addition to Icehouse I mean.

Does anyone know the President for The Ohio State University Alumni Club – I am having a little parade for my soon who is graduating from OSU and wanted to invite the OSU alums.  Don’t hate me for having a son at OSU!
