FYI - Big Ten blood drive is coming up the month of Oct. Not much we have to do other than send an email out a couple times to promote it and the fb event. We usually create one on the big10 page and add each school as a co-host.

Hi All-

Thank you to those who were able to join the Zoom call this week, apologies for the abrupt ending- if you have additional questions please reach out. For those of you that couldn’t attend please feel encouraged to view the video Meg shared or reach out to me personally 😊  There is a lot included in this email but please read through to the end to ensure you receive all info/resources.

Look for 2 emails Today Related to Your Virtual Blood Drive Link

We are excited to be gearing up for the BIG10 Blood Drive 2022 and I have been working diligently to gather all of the resources and materials you all will need. In addition, I have been working to refresh and create each a unique virtual blood drive link for each of you. You will be receiving an email from me today individually to confirm that the link has been created and that an email from Vitalant will hit your inbox with the link itself. Please keep an eye open for these 2 emails today.

Suggested Copy

Anna is kindly creating the image and flyer for each of you to use and customize. We are providing her with suggested copy to help support individuals knowing how to interact with the virtual blood drive link you each will be provided. This copy can be customized but please ensure the main instructional components remain

Suggested Instructional copy to couple with the Virtual Blood drive link: Please remember to include your unique link in all communications and leverage this suggested copy

Participating in the drive is easy:

  1. Click this link to support your team and make your pledge  before you donate for BIG10 Blood Drive.
  2. Once you submit your pledge, you will be directed to schedule your appointment at any Vitalant donation location. Remember the competition is October 1 – 31.
  3. When booking your appointment use the same email address you used to pledge to donate.
    • Your pledge and email address is all you need to ensure your donation counts for your team!
  4. Prepare for your donation by eating a healthy meal and drinking plenty of water. Remember to bring a photo ID with you and wear a mask.
  5. Donate blood and save lives!

Please read below for next steps AND suggested copy, materials and resources.

Next Steps:

  1. CC’d to this email is my amazing Colorado colleague, Robin Merrion (rmer...@vitalant.org )
    1. Robin and I will be supporting you through this awesome blood drive competition.  When reaching out please include us both.
  2. Look for 2 emails today- One from me and one from Vitalant providing you your unique links and how they work
  3. Look for the image and flyer created by Anna to be shared
    1. Customize the flyer with your link, team name, etc
  4. Prepare other social media posts, newsletter copy, emails etc to send to your alumni. Plan repeated communications out for the month.
    1. Don’t forget to include the link in all materials
  5. Begin communications by next week to give your alumni time to plan
    1. Remember all donation types count. If a donor has given whole blood and won’t be eligible to give whole blood again in October- they may still be eligible to give platelets or plasma!
  6. Highly Recommended: Please read, sign, and return by email  the attached “Confidentiality Agreement” to Whitney and Robin
    1. Each team rep that signs this will be able to be provided the name and contact info of alumni that have pledged and/ or donated.
    2. This is a great benefit to increase engagement because it allows you the opportunity to personally reach out and thank participating alumni and even help them if they have pledged but not scheduled or donated yet
    3. Reach out if you have questions
  7. Reach out to Whitney and Robin if you would like help with doing a pledge drive at a game watch or meeting
  8. Reach out to Whitney and Robin if you have questions or want support with a Q&A session
  9. Keep your eyes open for 2 weekly emails form Robin and I beginning in October
    1. An email update for the whole group sharing where teams rank and overall engagement
    2. An email update to each individual team rep providing more in depth information about their alumni’s engagement (# pledges, # appts, # donations, donation types)

                                                               i.      This email will also include name and contact info of participants for any team rep that reads, signs, and returns the “Confidentiality Agreement”  to support my personal recognition and support to your group 😊

  1. The BIG10 Champion will be announced Nov. 3 to the group via email
