Virtual Event - Colorado Elections Director Talk

Hey everyone!

The director of elections for CO (Judd Choate) is a Purdue alumni! His introduction he sent me:

I’m a 94 (m.a.) and 97 (ph.d) Purdue political science graduate.

I am the Colorado Election Director - a position I’ve held since 2009.

I make frequent presentations about Colorado’s election system - especially in light of the Russian actions in 2016. If the Colorado Purdue Alumni would like to schedule a special presentation or wrap me into an existing event, I could try to make that work. Topics could include election cyber security, Colorado’s new primary system, the Husted v. Philip Randolph Supreme Court ruling this month (I represented the National Association of State Election Directors in our work on this case), a general discussion of Colorado’s election model, or anything else you might need.

I thought due to the upcoming election this would be a great virtual/zoom event we could host with Judd. He is flexible on timing of this so we can have it basically whenever we want.

Does anyone have any ideas on when we should do this? With the election coming up fast on Nov 3rd it may be a good idea to have it on a weeknight within the next week or so? Or we could push it out to shortly after the election if we wanted too.

It seems based on the election content he likes to cover, it wouldn’t make sense to have it after the fact but maybe I’m missing something?

I agree - it probably makes sense to have it before...but thats only 1.5 weeks away so we would likely have to have it on the 29th or 2nd and that is very last minute to push. I suppose it would still work fine? I think the 29th would be my preference being a few days before and a thursday so hopefully more people are available.

I am going to push this out to after...its a bit too much to handle for me on this short of a timeline. I still think it would be nice to have a re-hash after the election and have him explain how things work and such. 

Also with the delays on masks this will allow me to hopefully only send one email out with the info for this event and masks (and also the B1G blood drive).

I reached out to Judd to see what days work best for him. Will shoot for a tues-thurs weeknight/evening time frame. What time does everyone think would be a good start time?? Maybe like 7pm?

Yeah, 7pm makes sense to me!  Roy, I would target Tues-Wednesday if possible to not conflict with Thursday football.

PLEASE invite as many friends as you can. As page admins we can no longer invite people...as individuals we can but it is no longer as easy as using a past event we went to and inviting everyone. Only people that RSVPd will show up...huge PITA change by facebook so we really need your help here.
