I am a descendant of Elizabeth Purcell, b. 1767 Prince William County, and James Strother.  On Elizabeth's death record from 1853 in Clarke Co, her son states that Elizabeth was born in PWC and was the child of John and Susan Purcell.  I do not believe that her father John was the son of William Purcell of PWC, whose life is fairly well documented.  There was another Purcell living in PWC at the same time as William.  His name was John Purcell, and he lived from approximately 1717-1752.  Does anyone have any information about this John Purcell and his family?  Thanks, Carol

27 Feb 1738 - John Purcell witnesses deed of Nathaniel Russell to Richard Blackburn (from Prince William County Deed Book D 1738-1740, by June Johnson Whitehurst) (implied date of birth 1717 because he would have had to be 21 to witness deed).  He also paid a bond on 26 Jun 1738 on the estate of John Davis (from Prince William County Will Book C 1734-1744, abstracted and compiled by John Frederick Dorman)
1747 - John Purcell listed on tithable list for PWC
29 Jul 1752 - John Purcell will proved, John Sims and wife Jane administrators (from The County Court Notebook, Vol II, edited by Milnor Ljungstdt, pub Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore 1972)
1755 - suit dismissed against John Simms regarding the orphans of John Purcell (from Virginia County Court Records, Order Book Abstracts from Prince William County, Virginia 1752-1753, edited and published by Ruth and Sam Sparacio, 1988)

This John Purcell could not be Elizabeth's father - possibly her grandfather???, and maybe William's brother???  (William's mother's second marriage was reported to be to Mr. Simms.)

our Jno Purcell was born in Pennsylvania circa 1826 and lived in Wood County, Ohio. He and Mariah Basor had two children: Emmeline or Emma and John Wesley.

Emma was born in 1855 : 2 years after the marriage were married 2-17-1853. The widow Mariah verified that date in her application for a widow' pension and that certificate is unavailable. It looks like Jno got home for a Dr s appointment verifies this in 1864 before he rejoined his unit and then became a P0W and sent to Andersonville prison where he died August 31, 1864. His brother-law Henry Basor was there, too and witnessed his death per the widows pension app. Jno died at 38. Jno Purcells mother's name may be Ruie.

Mariah married again and named another child Ruie.
SheMariah lived to be 92. She lived with my grandparents Benjamin and Maud Smith in Pemberville, Ohio.

Maud's mother was Emma who died when she was 30 leaving my grandmother who was just a year and a half old.

John Wesley was a barber in Toledo, Ohio..

I have been trying to find his grandparents in National Catholic records in Tipperary Cty without success. Maybe because he was Protestant as his name hints. Haven't had time to check that out, but there was a Methodist Episcopal Church in Wood Cty.
