Server Error: Data Provider type mismatch: Got String when a hash-like object was expected

we got an error as per subject in which we are just created one file name as version.yaml in which we can define node specific application related rpms are stored and that could we access by creating an alias in node.yaml file and ran puppet then it gives below error 

Error: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 500 on SERVER: Server Error: Data Provider type mismatch: Got String when a hash-like object was expected to access value using 'node' from key 'version.node.appliction-name' on node x.x.x.x
