We’re happy to announce the 2.6.0 and 1.2.0 releases of Puppet Server.  These are backward compatible feature and bug fix releases for versions 2.5.0 and 1.1.3, respectively.

NOTE: If you are upgrading to version 2.6.0 from a version earlier than 2.5.0 and you have modified the “bootstrap.cfg”, “/etc/sysconfig/puppetserver”, and/or “/etc/default/puppetserver” files, please read the following documents before proceeding with the upgrade:
Highlights for the releases include:
  • New bundled version of JRuby, 1.7.26, which includes fixes for the following transient failures:
    • Failed catalog compilations with error messages like “integer 2181729414 too big to convert to `int`”
    • Service startup failures with error messages like “load error: jopenssl/load -- java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError”
  • Replacement of logrotate with Logback for log file rotation.  Note that if you are upgrading Puppet Server on a Debian-based operating system that you will need to delete the "/etc/logrotate.d/puppetserver" file in order to avoid having both logrotate and Logback try to rotate log files.
  • For 2.6.0 only, a whitelist of environment variables can now be made available to Ruby code running under Puppet Server.
  • For 2.6.0 only, Puppet Server packages for SuSE Enterprise Linux (SLES) 12 have been released for the first time.
