Hi all,

I try not to get too personal on the lists, but this is big enough
that it will affect the time I have for Puppet in the coming weeks and
months. I've been joking since I finished my Chemistry degree that I
want to have twins so I have a control, and now it turns out that my
wife is having exactly that -- identical twin girls. I plan to
introduce them as the control and the hot spare. :)

They're due in early October, but given that twins most often come
early, we wouldn't be surprised if they arrive in the middle of
September, and really, they could could come any day. As a family,
we're striving to get as far as possible in preparing our home, but as
a product Puppet is well prepared to do without me for a bit and as a
company Reductive Labs is working to prepare for my temporary absence.

James Turnbull has been done a great job of shepherding 0.24.5 out,
and we've gotten a lot more people contributing to the releases. I've
gotten all of the necessary plumbing done for 0.25, and it's just a
question of plowing through the rest of it.

In the company, Andrew is working with me on the primary deliverables
for 0.25, along with trying to track down the memory problems in the
server, and Teyo is preparing to take over most of my training and
consulting duties. Teyo hasn't been able to spend as much time on the
lists as I'd hoped, but that's mostly because I've kept him busy
getting ready for taking over for me. He's a sysadmin I've worked
with for years, and is one of the guys I worked with and trained
before going independent in 2003, so I have lots of confidence in him.

I don't know how long the twins will keep me out, nor to what extent.
I don't expect to drop off the face of the earth, but I also expect
James, Teyo, and Andrew to entirely take over any time-sensitive
issues for a while once the twins arrive. If at any point you think
you've got an urgent issue and I'm not answering you, contact James or
Andrew if it's a product issue or Andrew or Teyo if it's a support/
company issue. Andrew and Teyo can each be reached at
andrew@reductivelabs and te...@reductivelabs.com, respectively, and
we've got plenty of other addresses you can try for various types of
contact -- sup...@reductivelabs.com, consu...@reductivelabs.com,
and in...@reductivelabs.com. All of those addresses currently go to
all three of us, so you can be confident you'll reach us that way.

If you're a support customer of mine, you should expect communication
from us in the coming weeks, establishing clear ways of getting
support from us without needing to directly contact me so you can be
sure of getting timely support.

If you're not a support customer of mine, now's a great time to show
the love. :) We're very close to being able to bring one more person
on to help with support, which would allow me to dedicate a higher
percentage of what time I do have to development.

Wish me luke,
Luke

Congratulations! Will those two be inserted in an existing array, or
is it the first time you're building one of these setups? If it's the
first time, I can guarantee you, that you'll be busy for the next
couple of years...! :-)

I wish you and your wife a stress- and problemfree delivery...

Hi all

One of the best ways to get help is to log a ticket at the Reductive
Labs Redmine instance:

http://reductivelabs.com/redmine/

I try to triage tickets once a day and others (hi AJ!) also throw their
eyes over them fairly regularly. That way if you miss us on the
channel, the lists, Twitter or any other mechanism then your issue will
be registered and we'll follow it up.

Please try to add as much detail as possible to your ticket: traces,
debugs, logs, manifests and especially as much detail about your
environment, platform and versions.

Cheers

James Turnbull

Congrats!! I Know what it is/was like with my first child and now
another on the way.

Owning a business is also like a child, initially needy and sucks up
all your time.

Setting a support structure/help desk is a smart idea to delegate
tasks to the correct person.

Wow, congratulations!  As someone with a newborn, I can enjoy listening to your tales of exhaustion and woe in a few months! :)

Congratulations Luke!

Soon, you too can go on week long training excursions and have it feel
like a massive vacation :-).

Kids are a lot of fun, hope everything goes well in the next few months.

Trevor
