[Puppet Underground]

Hello again! 

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the recent Bread and Puppet shows and the Colectivo Altepee documentary screening and concert! It was great to see so many friendly faces at both events. We're waxing nostalgic these days for the Haunted Halloween Cabaret we did a few years back. Maybe we'll revive that next fall...

But for now, we're contacting ya'll today to invite you to support another exciting project that a few Puppet Underground members are working on this month: a Festival to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Cultural Center, Nigan Tonogue, in Cosoleacaque, Veracruz (http://www.indiegogo.com/nigan-tonogue). Nigan Tonogue is a cultural center dedicated to preserving and teaching Son Jarocho music and dance, traditional weaving, and other forms of artistic expression. They were also one of the groups we partnered with for the Fandango Fronterizo in Juarez in 2010. 

The center was started 5 years ago and every year there is a big festival to celebrate the anniversary, with workshops, concerts, a parade, space for artisans to show their work, and a fandango! This year the festival is a tribute to Mother Earth and will serve as the kick-off for the community’s ZERO-Trash environmental education campaign.

One of the big activities during the festival is a parade through town to the cultural center, inviting people to come participate in the events. A few of us from Puppet Underground will be giving puppet-making and stilt walking workshops with young people from the community to use in the parade. 

We're really excited about this collaboration with Nigan Tonogue, and we're looking for support to make the festival is a success! 

The festival organizers have created an indiegogo campaign to raise the $4,000 needed to pull off the festival. Nigan Tonogue doesn't receive any ongoing funding, and the festival is being put together by a team of dedicated volunteers, but they need funds to cover the cost of materials for the parade, sound and other equipment, food for attendees, transporting supplies, etc.
