Washington Performing Arts will salute puppetry in Washington, D.C. by hosting a showcase of short performances by local puppeteers at Busboys & Poets (5th & K Street NW). Come enjoy an evening of music, whimsy and puppetry for adults as the slam performances will highlight the talent and magic of puppet builders and puppeteers from the D.C. and Baltimore metro areas. Welcome to Mars: A D.C. Puppet Slam will be curated by the Mars Urban Arts Initiative with coordination support by The Nice-ee Nice and will feature musical interludes by DJ Native Sun. We are a puppeteer's collective in DC committed to using art and performance to support movements and grassroots organizing for social and economic justice. We offer community art workshops, street theater shows, puppets, stilters, and help developing creative organizing strategies.
