It would be helpful for breaking out files into more manageable chunks, if hiera's mapped_paths option would permit use of globs for expansion.

For example:

{{- name: Example
mapped_paths: [services, tmp, "service/%{tmp}/*.yaml"}}

The HI project is for the deprecated hiera 3 gem. Please move this ticket to Puppet since this is for hiera 5.

I think that in order to support this there would need to be something like a mapped_globs as it would not otherwise be 100 backwards compatible (risk of expanding glob when this is not wanted).
