viewing. In one of them I used GoogleEarth to zoom in as tightly as
possible on my home address and was pleased to see it captured a shot
of me picking up a plastic bottle! Incredible, huh?
The second picture is of the loaded toter that I fill each week on a
run down the local commercial strip. I hit all the city litter barrels
and extract the recyclables - paper, plastic, aluminum and glass. As
you can see I have no trouble finding enough stuff and top of the list
during the warm months are Starbuck's plastic cups, that I stack so
that they take up as little space as possible. I wear fairly nice
clothes when I do this so that the public will know I am not a city
employee doing the work. You would be amazed and the amount of coffee,
pop and expensive water from bottles that I dump in the street. I
leave a little brown lake behind me at every barrel.
I wrote to the Starbuck's store manager asking if he could put out a
bin for people to toss their plastic cups in. No response. I then
wrote Starbuck's HQ and got a long form letter explaining how
environmentally friendly the company is...but no solution to the local
cup problem.
As winter approaches, I'll probably find there isn't enough stuff to
make these weekly trips worthwhile but I happy to say I have pulled
probably a hundred pounds of recyclables out this last summer.
