Hello All,

Y'day I had taken my car to TASS to fix some rattling noise. One such noise was from the rear. It was traced to the reverse light module & the "red" light module on the bumper. They both were loose and was creating rattles on bad roads.

Now, these lights are fixed to the bumper with a latch on one side and screw on the other. This latch is moulded on the bumper is very small and breaks easily. Mine was broken for both the light modules !. For now, they fixed the modules using fevibond . Other wise we have to replace the bumper it seems (and the latch is so fragile that it may break any time)!!! Looks like a "design" defect from FIAT.

Out of curiosity, I checked few cars that came for service. This module was loose for atleast 3 of them.

Any one else faced this issue?

BTW, they were calling this red light opposite to the reverse light as reverse "fog" lamp. Dont know why!!! :-)

regards,
Kiran

Yes it is the rear fog lamp.. and called so.

I'm assuming the lights may have come loose due to small
collisions....
Say like a 2 wheeler not stopping in time, and hitting your rear
bumper.. even a nudge is enough!!

(happened to me once, a biker following me too close, I braked hard
not noticing him in my mirror, heard a thud, after inspecting i
discovered he also braked, but too fast to collide with my bumper and
his front tyre made contact with my bumper and my rear reverse light
was out of its location..)

The rear reverse & fog lights are at almost the same height enough for
a bike's front wheel to hit/touch the rear bumper and dis locate the
light..

Yes, exactly thats what happened in my case as well. A gentle nudge from behind :-) And thats all it takes to break the "latch" and dislocate the light module. Wonder why FIAT made this so fragile!

Well such things makes me question FIAT design and QA team's capabilities. May be FIAT is sharing TATA's team for this job. I had Palio for 5 years and there was not a single part which was loosely fitted/quality not up to the mark. Even the Palio Stile owners never complained about the quality. Linea and Punto both are suffering in the fitting department. High time FIAt has done something about this. I guess Amit (Who owned S10) on this group will agree on this.

Cheers

That is a design flaw as far as I am concerned.

Personally I don't like anything incorporated in any of the bumpers (front & back). I am not a fan of fog lamps incorporated in front bumper.

The rear lights cluster (comprising of the reverse light, indicators and fog lamps) should be independent of the bumper. Ideally, I like it when it is integrated into the body / boot door. (Indica Vista  Design). The front fog lamps should be integrated into the main head light unit (Skoda L&K design)

The rear bumps at the most can have those red plastic reflectors. Nothing more.

And frankly speaking, Punto's reverse light is useless !!

the thing that puzzles me the most ... why the rear light on one side only .... if they would've made both of them reverse lights it would have looked more balanced . Dont u think so ?

Because ARAI directive says that it is sufficient if manufacturers provide reverse light only on one side

I was also hit by a Hyundai accent from behind and my rear fog lamp broke in the impact. Luckily there was no other major damage. The bumper didnot even look like it was hit. Got the fog lamp replaced in Corcorde motors, Mysore road. I also asked them to top up engine oil and change the pollen filter as I was taking the vehicle for a long drive. I have attached the receipt from Concorde. I didnot notice if the fog lamp is screwed in or stuck. I will ask them when I visit next time.

The fog lamp and service charges were paid by the Hyundai car owner.

I know guys even i liked the reverse lights both sides but cant help it...

Most of the new cars these days carry that trend of one reverse light...

Same here even i like the lights integrated to the body cluster than the bumper...

Ask me man! I have had the rear fog light knocked down four times by
idiotic bikers and jerk drivers. Twice it was dislodged out of
position and had to be glued back and I've had to pay for a new lamp
twice (costs close to 1k with fitting charges). Yes, I agree with
others the design is flawed but me thinks it is for a purpose. Does
any one know that the rear tail lamp (the big one running on the sides
of the car at the rear) costs only 1400 bucks while that flimsy piece
of **** called the rear fog light costs 800 bucks. Fiat knows that
part is very susceptible to knocks and me thinks they have purposely
priced it higher to milk us. No complaints though. It is a smart piece
of pricing tactic.

And yes I was given the same story by the TASS that the clip holding
it in place is broken and can not be fixed. The bumper needs to be
replaced. Obviously I opted for super glue. Even now, the replacement
lamp is glued in place in my car. Thank god for small mercies!
