The Sun enters the zodiac sign of Makara Raasi on the twilight in the
late evening of 14-1-2026. Hence, some almanacs mention that the
Pongal is on 14-1-2026.
The Sankaranti denotes the commencement of Uttarayana, passage of Sun
for six months to the north from south and this entails astrologically
differences in an individual's life. The pooja for Sun is done during
day time, after sunrise, on Thursday, 15-1-2026..
But, Thursday, from Sunrise, has Jyeshta nakshatra for 24 hours. The
combination of Jyeshta and Thursday becomes Praabhalishta yog,
inappropriate for starting anything new at all. Therefore, the pundits
had advised that the Naivedya (Pongal pot) is to be completed before
sunrise at 7 am (Pune time) and the Sankaranti pooja can be performed
at a convenient time thereafter.
With pranams to Ubhaya Gurus, Hariohm.
