It is the 75th year, and that is called vajram (diamond) and the 50th year of sanyasa sweekakaram and golden. The title for the festival is from Sannidhanam.
In Pune Math, from 7 am, programmed homam started and the poorna Ahuti was around 1 pm followed by maha prasadam.
About two decades back, Maha Sannidhnam explained that 'ankur-arpanam' is essential for the blessings of the pancha bhutas (the 5 great elements, space, wind, fire, water and earth) from which the universe is created.
The seeds of Navagraha and also the other seeds are allowed to sprout with moisture for ten days prior to the occasion. On the day of the festival, the sprouts(ankur) are kept to absorb the vedic vibrations from the chanting by purohits. Thereafter, all the ankur are immersed in any water-hole or spread on the earth. It is not to be drained in the sewerage. In earlier eras the immersion was a very auspicious occasion with a big procession of people accompanied with musical instruments. This process is called Ankur arapanam or Paligai.
We had taken Maha Sannidahanm's advice and since then followed the procedure for all of the homam..
