Uttar Pradesh Bird Festival - Chambal | December 2015

Dear all,

The first Uttar Pradesh bird festival held in Chambal at the birding hotspot Mela Kothi, Chambal River Lodge was a grand success on all fronts. Excellent arrangements, teams always on their toes to make sure everything happened on time - from early morning bird walks to brilliant talks by international speakers and of course very tasty dinner happening over insightful discussions with birders from all parts of India. Thanks to Mr. Nikhil Devasar, Mr. Akhilesh Yadav - UP Chief Minister, UP Forest & Eco-tourism Departments; and the whole team behind this huge endeavour.

The four days were filled with excitement, knowledge, field visits, art and photography workshops. This was not only an opportunity to interact with authors such Per Alstrom, Pam Rasmussen, Tim & Carol Inskipp and others but also to interact with brilliant birders from across India and abroad. Not to miss out on some inspiring talks by Indian authors and conservationists as well as Forest Department officials sharing their experience about what natural wealth UP can boast of. The marquee used to be filled with hundreds of birders and energetic school children while many could enjoy a huge gallery put up just besides it with bird photographs from best of the photographers in India. Just outside were stalls to promote birdwatching, equipment, eco-tourism etc while on the other side bird ringing sessions run by Dr. Bala used to get crowded as he ringed tiny beauties.

This has been a very enriching and great experience for all of us and I wish best for coming years. A superb model that can be replicated in all states or one for all of them together.
