Hi Bikers,

I know this community isnt very active but wanted to put forth some questions.

I am repairing my old ATB (single gear) and wanted some inputs.
1. New brakes - the old brakes sucked, were the rubber ones and used to wear out easily. Any recommendations
2. New handle - any recommendations , experiences
3. New gear - now i am not sure if i can add gears to my non-geared bike so just wanted some inputs - recommended or not
4. New tyres - recommendations / brands ?

Any place where excellent cycle mechanics are there in Pune who can make my bike a bike :)
I have done some repairing to the one but feel like doing some more to take it for long rides until I get a new TREK or similar !

Would appreciate inputs!

Thanks,
Jayaram

hey Jayaram,
you could do all this ..
but it would be much cheaper to just spring in for a new bike !

speak to Alpesh at Koregaon Park - Rider owned bikes (http://firefoxbikes.com/station.htm) and he should be able to help you out.

Check out the maintenance section on our biking wiki - http://notebook.bumsonthesaddle.com/

brakes - get the V brakes from the Trek 3700 or the Target. Those should do well.
Handle bar - Target / Trek 3700 - decent
Gears - knock em off and convert the bikeinto a single speed
Tires - you could speak to Alpesh and get some Kenda tires. Or jst pick up local tires. The Tires off Trek 3700 are also good.

Considering you're replacing almost everything but the frame getting a
new bicycle would be better. For a little more than the amount you
spend repairing this bike you can get a brand new BSA Mach 18. And you
won't even miss the gears given it's light weight.

Hi,
I wouldn't know much. But there is a shop in Koregaon Park, Lane 7. Maybe he could help.
