The work I've been doing to help Patrick build a button vote board has proven beneficial to the biosensor array project as well.  I've figured out how to change the baud rate (and other settings) for the bluesmirf bluetooth modem.  In order to change the modem's settings, you need to send it AT commands over the Arduino IDE serial monitor or another serial terminal application.  You can find the list of commands linked to from the Sparkfun product listing page.

Open up a blank sketch and then open the serial monitor.  Set the serial monitor to the right baud and make sure the monitor is set to no end of line character.  Enter "$$$" in the top line and hit send.  You should see "CMD" returned from the Bluesmirf.  Now, change the monitor settings to have carriage return as the end of line character.  The AT command set should work and the bluesmirf should return "AOK" for every correctly formatted command.  Changes to the bluesmirf's settings will take effect upon re-booting of the modem.

Shawn,
We tried all of that using a FTDI cable but the module doesn't respond. For Arduino to work you would need to reverse the RX and TX connections between Arduino and Bluesmirf - a little more difficult on our board...
Best to leave at 115k for now, Drew modified the program.

Cheers,
Dan

No, you don't understand.  I got it to work.  It's now set at 57k.
