Mark et al

Have you made any progress on the soldering stations, etc?
Did the winners receive their prizes yet?

I'd really like to populate our space with the irons. I've got a bunch of cheap ones, and my high end unit, but the ones promised us looked like a great fit for the space.

Hi there,

I just had confirmation from the client that the TechSpray products had started to ship out. They won't share the tracking codes though so I'm a little in the dark as to when you'll get them.

FYI, nothing yet for CCHS (HackMelbourne) here in Australia.

Mark, do you know if the items were to be shipped from the local supplier(s) or their agents, or were they shipping internationally?

Just a quick thought on the electronic item(s): hopefully they'll be "international" dual voltage items?

Cheers,

Paul

Hi there,

Good questions. I have been trying to hammer home the international needs of the product choices from the beginning. There is a huge focus right now from the client on thinking of the needs of the Asian and European market so hopefully this will manifest itself in the product sourcing.

If element14 (farnell-newark) wants to improve service in Brazil, I would be glad to help - we really lack a good supplier for these parts.

They have, indeed, a lot of work to do here, even searching for parts in the farnel-newark website is rather difficult - more than once I looked for a part on digi-key just for choosing and, if I am in a hurry, I check the part on farnell website to see if I can get it faster. This is not the only problem, though. :c/

Farnell-newark has, by far, the most comprehensive catalog for electronic parts in Brasil. But people prefer buying from the US (or even China), wait longer, pay courrier and import taxes because of these and other issues.

So... anyone else got anything yet?
Element-14 just pulled out of Makerfaire Brighton, so I'm allowed to
start slagging them off now ;)

Hi there,

You can lead the charge Tony. You do it with so much panache. ;-)  I'm aiming to have another update in a week or so.

Still just a small roll of copper braid and that nice Plato cutter.
How did PS:1 fair? did you guys get your premium prizes?
I do get community email from E14.
However, I am routing that to spam now.
If these folks cant get it together to live up to promises, they do NOT deserve our business.

It also screws up these challenges for any future sponsors.
It would take a fair bit of bling to get us to consider joining one again...
we got too many other local issues to work.

Hi there,

We whole heatedly agree Jerry. We have made it extremely clear to the purse string holders at element14 that this delay is unacceptable and has undermined any positive feeling that the community and anyone the community is in a position to influence in the future.

I'm trying to work through an entirely different set of contacts and go above the heads of the day to day client that we've been dealing with. element14 has recently experienced a marketing management change but that is no excuse for not fulfilling legacy obligations.

Hey,

Sorry we haven't posted in a while, since I last posted we have received one Weller cordless soldering station. Also, we have long since sent in the non-profit paperwork that Tektronix had requested from us.  Other than that, we're still waiting for the remaining stuff (the DMMs, the power supply, etc.).
