Erfurt, Germany — On the occasion of International Women's Day, a Liberian-born immigrant and author is raising urgent questions about the realities many immigrants could be facing within modern integration systems.

In a newly completed memoir, she shares her personal journey navigating life, opportunities and policies intended to support immigrant integration. While these systems are designed to promote inclusion, her experience reveals how bureaucratic barriers, isolation, fragile legal status, and limited access to meaningful opportunities can increase vulnerability rather than empowerment.

Her story highlights the lived experiences behind migration statistics and the obstacles faced at the intersection of migration, gender, and economic insecurity.

The memoir also exposes a harsh reality: the Embassy of Liberia in Germany turned its back on the author during a time of vulnerability. This experience underscores a stark truth—when diplomatic missions fail their citizens abroad, indifference is not neutrality; it is abandonment.

The story suggests a need for nonprofit leaders, policymakers, the church community, and advocates to rethink immigrant integration—not only in terms of access to services, but also in terms of dignity, agency, protection from exploitation, and real pathways to opportunity.

By sharing her story, the author hopes to amplify immigrant voices and encourage deeper reflection on how existing systems may unintentionally create new forms of vulnerability.

An electronic copy of the memoir is attached to this release.
