How reliable is the LiveConnect functionality in general?
My use case is that I'd like to have my game talk to JavaScript, so
that it can pop up a lightbox, so I'm primarily interested just in the
Java -> JS communication, rather than vice-versa.

I haven't tested lately. It's supposed to be a lot better on 6u10+
PulpCore itself uses Java->JS to stop showing the splash screen, but there is a timeout in case the message is never received. I think it had some problems on some versions of Opera. It all depends on the OS/browser/plugin.
