Was wondering how profitable applets are vs flash. I know there are
more ways of getting ad revenue and sponsorship w/ flash, ie: mochi -
which they have no intentions of supporting java, and flash game
license. but I have the following questions:

1. how are ads done w/ applets.
2. just because I can get sponsorship and use mochi, etc. I thought
that selling(not sure if this is what it's called) your applet
outright may get you cash in hand but nothing more - even if you get a
gazillion hits.

I was thinking it would be nice to create a demo version that either
you can
1. earn the full version
2. buy the full version
3. get ad revenue at the same time. flash has the advantage of in
game advertising between levels.
4. port full version to mobile device.
5. go social and monetize app on facebook.

I really only see flash being sent to kongregate and other game mills
where they only last for a few days. Or they're profitable as social
(ie client/server) games. I'm assuming that games like canabalt
basically have no advertising, maybe vanilla html banner ads. and they
sell a mobile version. under this model java would work pretty good.

Not sure how feasible how the 5 bullets points above are - let alone
how to implement effectively. Any thoughts/resources appreciated. I
guess what strategies are used to maximize $$$ (to put it bluntly :P)?

I'm lazy and am fluent w/ java and assoc. apis. luckily the java and
as3 languages are pretty darn similar. But I would hate to start all
over learning flash api's but sticking w/ java may not be a pragmatic
choice.

I think too.
For my little game BounceBox (presented in a previous thread) I putted
two ads just above and below the applet itself (see
http://www.bouncebox.fr/bouncebox-web-edition/ ) plus one ad on top of
the webpage, since 20th april.

Despite 250k users playing at the TV version of the game (in which I
encourage people to play the web version of the game), I get very low
amount of money and visitors ; it seems it won't be sufficient to cover
the price of the dedicated server I rent.

David already told about donation for Android (I personally donated for
that, among other things) but it seems he doesn't have enough time or
interrest anymore in porting PulpCore to Android. At least, you may want
to donate just for the supporting the amount of work done by David ;-)

About Android: as I would like to port my game on Android platforms in
near future, I took a look at 2D game frameworks. My biggest wish was to
find one as close as possible to PulpCore. It seems the AndEngine
framework is one of them ; you may want to took a look at it:
