Dear PULISAA members,
PULISAA is organizing a lecture
by Nikhil Wable, Librarian, National Library of Australia, o 7th May
2012, at 4.00 pm at Jayakar Library.
Nikhil, is Bachelor of
Communication (Information), University of Canberra, and arRecipient of the
John Balnaves award, University of Canberra, for a high distinction, in
‘Information Retrieval.’ He is working
at the National Library of Australia (NLA) for the last five years since 2007.
His experience
at the National Library of Australia involves a range of activities including cataloguing
of monographs and serials, processing of mainstream and non-mainstream
materials; performing complex accessioning tasks, including analytics
material; doing CIP upgrades, copy cataloguing,
raising purchase orders; and providing reference services.
He is working on Prometheus which involves transferring data from physical carriers [CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs] to a central server. Prometheus is a Digital Preservation Workflow (DPW) Project set up to develop a suitable workflow system for long-term preservation, storage and access to digital collection items received on physical carriers or as discrete files to mitigate the major risks associated with the physical carriers: deterioration of the media and the technology becoming obsolete.
The presentation is intended to give an overview of the library practices at the National Library. It will also cover digitization and how the electronic media will impact on the role of librarians in future.
We appreciate your presence for the lecture, though it is organized at a short notice.
Please confirm your participation at the earliest. Send your emails to pul...@gmail.com or call at 9822014134
