Hi Wonderful Members and Volunteers,

This year we are going to be hosting an end of the year party to thank everyone involved in the PSCSTA for their hard work and dedication to bringing Computer Science education to the Puget Sound.

We will be celebrating on Saturday, June 20th at Big Time Brewery from 11:30 am - 2: 30 pm. Big Time Brewery welcomes all ages until 8pm. Everyone who has volunteered in any aspect, or participated in our teacher workshops is welcome to attend. We also welcome guests who may be interested in volunteering or participating in the future.

The PSCSTA will be ordering some appetizers for everyone to enjoy. We will elect our new officers, plan our teacher workshops for next year, and then celebrate all of our hard work. You may arrive at anytime.

Please RSVP at the link below so we know how much food to order.

I hope to see most of you there! Reach out to me directly if you have any questions. Thanks everyone!

Hi, I wish I could join this party, but, I am away teaching Scratch to middle-school students in India!

Best wishes to all and see you again in September.

And just to make it clear, our meeting Saturday IS at Big Time Brewery (NOT at UW)
Please do register below if you are coming so we can plan accordingly - come to celebrate the past year and assemble ideas and plans for next year!  We have additional financial resources to invest in CS Education, please be part of it.   Cheers, Earl B

Dear colleagues,

We have a research project going on at the UW in our department exploring issues of teen health and technology tools. This is a bona fide research study, with all university research protocols and approvals (IRB, if you know the term), not simply an informal student class project.

If you see fit to publicize this to your students or other colleagues, we’d be most appreciative. Details are below.

If you have any questions about the study or project, you can direct them to me or (better yet) our graduate student coordinating the study, Alysse Gallo <an...@uw.edu>.

Many thanks.

“Teens are invited to take part in a research study. Researchers at Seattle Children’s want to learn about your health goals, health habits, and technology use. Input will help researchers design an iPad app to support teen health. You are a good fit if you are 14-18 years of age and can read and speak English.

If you decide to take part in the research study, you will take a 15-20 minute anonymous survey on a computer. The survey includes: answering health questions, sharing your favorite activities, and discussing the types of technologies you use. You can win a $25 gift card for your participation.

Please contact Alysse Gallo at an...@uw.edu if you have any questions, comments, or for more information. The Principal Researcher for this study is Cari McCarty, PhD, Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development, Research Associate Professor, Seattle Children’s Research Institute. Please share the link below with anyone you know who might be interested.

Thank you!”

Posting this for a colleague at the UW:

Are you an educator who works with students in a public high school? We are a team of UW researchers working on addressing teen stress through the use of variety of tools and technologies. We are holding an online focus group to talk with educators about the possibility to use a social robot to measure and address teen stress.

The focus group will be held online on July 25 at 10-11am or 12-1pm. You will receive a $20 gift card as a thank you for your time. If you are interested, please email em...@uw.edu to sign up.
