Piel Canela and Gabriel Reyes
Gabriel Reyes La Flor De La Piel Canela
September 21 8pm

For the first time together on stage, we were treated to the joining of this fine guitarist with a hot group who are masters of Latino music, followed throughout the area. Spanish guitarist/singer Gabriel Reyes' guitar stylings and Piel Canela's vocals and guitar of Eduardo León and Fernando Huerta González on backup vocals and rhythm guitar. A new drummer was announced as Sam Renteria Avila who appears to fit in with his beat and will be a joy to watch during the upcoming season. He mastered the bongos with a delightful pulsation. Manuel de la Rosa added his super expertise on bass guitar.

A night of Spanish music, songs were popular and others unknown of classic and popular modern hits. He performed a fine mash-up of "Guantanamera" and "La Bamba". Gabriel played solo for the first act, backed near the set's end by percussionist Jesus [Chuy] Estrada, who added so much to the stage with smooth rhythm and upbeat grooves. He is a wonderful musician.

Act two opened with Piel Canela tearing up the room. The hot show began. They are arguably one of the best and talented bands in the Bahía de Banderas area. Each of the three members plus two special guests is a top draw within the music area here and every viewing details why this is so. Gabriel sang stronger and with more self-assurance when backed by the group. He cut loose and showed vocal prowess. A song by Juan Gabriel was presented showcasing the vast writing ability of this late superstar.

The show shifted to an emphasis on tropical salsa with "Yo No Se Mañana" [I do not know tomorrow], a very popular song danced to throughout the country for a decade since Luis Enrique introduced the tune. "Seré" [I Will Be] was introduced as a song with lyrics depicting the struggles of every musician in getting ahead and successful before audiences. Nothing comes easy. "will be, your land and your sky, Your bird in flight for you, I will be..." A beautiful song extremely well-done.

The gathering enjoyed this special night and await more performances by both entities.
