Piel Canela is a band composed of Eduardo León lead singer and guitarist and Fernando Huerta González rhythm guitarist and backup vocals whose sound is Latin, Rumba and Flamenco and and Luis Rascón on percussion and cello. These men are terrific musicians and together with a vocalist like Amy are magical sounds. The blending of their Latin background with Amy's wide range of musical genres enhances and expands the entire evening. Her voice, combined with the Latin guitar and percussion accompaniment, is a new creative direction and sound for Amy and a delight to everyone's ears. Amy's appreciation of music goes beyond borders, up to the edge.
The three bent into a swinging version of "Livin' La Vita Loca" which supplied the name for this season-long show changing Vita to Diva: "Her lips are devil red and her skin's the color of mocha." Amy has a fondness for Lorde's "Royals" and she slammed it into the room's air. She extended a sultry bluesy "Summertime" while her main man Hector delved out a chocolate donut from his tray, one for every attendee. He has extended her strength throughout the season. A lovingly presented "[I'm] Jealous [of the Way]" slowed down the mood with emotional lyrics. Then the entry which brought many here to their feet was Amy's interpretation of "The Rose", sharing the stanzas with Eduardo who sang in Spanish. A great song became even better.
Nate Buccieri joined the band and Amy with a thrilling "Hotel California". His energy is astounding and carries the song perfectly. "As I grow older, my inner voice is gradually becoming my outer voice." From the new smash musical The Greatest Showman, the band led by Amy's strong vocals. This is a strong statement for the audience to absorb and appreciate.
Amy dipped into Adele's song list with "Love in the Dark" after remarking that she connects with many villagers when she says she is Adele. "Hola, it's me." The lyrics were possessed by her and shot out in sweet yet sad tones. This superstar's vocal range, power and song choice jive with Amy.
Just the Two of Us" segued into the four of us reflecting Piel Canela duo, Nate and Amy. The sound was Latin and bubbly. Pink's soon-to-be classic in any genre, "What About Me" was enveloped within Amy's vocal prowess resulting in another special happening of this show, the last of the season but the crowd collectively hoped for a return of all four artists.
