the Union cabinet has given a go ahead for the increase of the salaries of Members’ of Parliament (MP), India. And this is what an MP gets now (per month) after the steep hike:
Basic pay: Rs.50000 (previously it was just Rs.16000)
Office amenities: Rs.40000 (from being Rs.20000)
Constituency costs: Rs.40000 (from Rs.20000)
Pension benefits: Rs.20000 (from Rs.8000)
Pay for road mileage (in their official vehicle): Rs.16 per every kilometre (from Rs.13 per kilometre). Note that this allowance will be paid only if the travel is made for a work as being a MP, like attending a meeting, attending a parliamentary session etc.
And there are those end less perks such as Interest free loan to buy a personal vehicle up to Rs.4 lakhs (from Rs.1 lakh), free Air conditioned first class or executive class travel unlimited number of times for MP’s and their Spouse/ Husband, free Air travel, other Housing and Telephone facilities, medical facilities, allowances for journeys abroad, Constituency allowances etc.
If the MP’s choose to live in Delhi, they are entitled for a free flat in the affluent and prosperousLutyen’s zone for absolutely nothing. Government pays the rent on furniture up to Rs.60000, 50000 units of electricity and 4000 kilo litres of water every year. And if the MP is entitled for a Bungalow, they are required to pay a small license fee. However, some estimates say that a Bungalow in Lutyen’s Delhi zone is worth several tens of crores in INR.
MP’s are also entitled for 3 landlines and 2 mobile phones officially, from which they can make 1,50,000 free phone calls (not minutes) every year.
