Alternatively, after you paste into Word, highlight the text in question. You can then click [Ctrl] + [6] on Windows or [Command] + [6] on the Mac to strip out any field codes. This will remove the link between the citations and EndNote that was responsible for the field shading (grey background) you are seeing.

Remove Endnote Shading From References In Ms Word For Mac

But this leads me to think you use a library for each manuscript which is a waste of space and resources. The power of endnote is that you have an evolving list of potential refs to select from as you work now and in the future.

Current versions of endnote are much more forgiving if you delete the duplicate attached to the paper, if a similar one is present. It is also easier to compare two, and to copy some things from one to the other and then get rid of one. But at the end of the day, once you HAVE the record for a specific article in your library, why would you want to have to get it again for the next paper?

When we clic on the biblio list in the doc all ref are selected (shaded), why they are not selected in parallel in Endnote library too? If selecting or shading references in the manuscript is reflected on endnote library, it will be easy to find and removed non used references.

It would be useful if we can click on a given reference in the biblio and see it also selected or highlighted in endnote library. Or better, when clic on a reference in Endnote library, il will be highlighted in the corresponding text in word! This will allow see if a reference is present in the body text or not. If not, user can easily remove it.

I have a weirdly annoying issue with the attached document - there are citations throughout the text from EndNote which are protected fields. But I do not have field protection enabled in compatibility & the fields do not have field names. They are recognized as fields and have shading, but otherwise, I am unable to see any details about what they are linking to or edit them.

This will be a lot of work. You must design your own collection of paragraph styles, character styles and list styles. Apparently you have no fancy page style, so you can go with Default Page Style. The biggest task is to analyse the text to see the various semantic categories of paragraphs (each category ends up into one paragraph style). For the main discourse, use built-in Text Body. For numbered headings which open a new topic, use Heading 1 and other Heading n if you have subdivisions.

Most of the outline seems to be made of a multi-level list (at least 3 levels). These could be covered by a single paragraph style associated with a single list style (a misnomer because it only describes bullet/numbering properties and level indentation). You change level by typing a Tab at beginning of the list item to change for a deeper level. The reverse is Shift+Tab.

Once you have your paragraph styles, apply the ad hoc one to a paragraph then remove the existing direct formatting with Ctrl+M (may need to select whole paragraph in case there is also character direct formatting). Special emphasis on words should be handled with character styles like Emphasis (italics) or Strong Emphasis (bold).

The remaining issue is the bibliography. Either you consider your document as frozen and you can make do with present ordinary text extracted from the fields, or your document will be later updated. In the latter case, you should rebuild the bibliography with the built-in tool.

Note that this restyling will only be guaranteed to be stable and reliable only if you save .odt.

*Never remove field codes from your original document! This change is permanent and once made, you will not be able to edit the document with EndNote again. Always make a copy of your paper and remove the field codes from the copy.

Youcan eliminate orphans and widows, words or single lines of textthat become separated from the other lines in a paragraph. Orphans fallat the bottom of a column or page, and widows fallat the top of a column or page. Another typographic problem to avoidis a heading that stands alone on a page with the following paragraphon the next page. You have several options for fixing widows, orphans, short exit lines, and other paragraph break problems:

If you received the document from someone else, they may have applied a background color using controls in the Format sidebar. To learn how to change or remove a background color applied this way, see Change the page background.

There are some edits to citations and references that EndNote cannot cope with at all. For example, if you have used a secondary reference, there is no way for EndNote to format it correctly. We have noted in the guide when you will need to make these changes manually. Before you can do this, you need to remove the EndNote formatting. Wait until you are happy with your document and are ready to submit it, apart from needing to edit the references.

Select "Convert Citations and Bibliography" from the EndNote toolbar and click on "convert to plain text". A message will appear warning that the file will be saved as a new document, leaving the original unchanged. The original will still be linked to EndNote, and will still be editable. The new document should be saved separately. In this new document, the citations and references are not linked to an EndNote library but are simply words on the page, so you can edit them as you need to. For more help, including instructions for Macs, see the library's Endnote pages.

Authors submitting LaTeX files may use any of the standard class files such as article.cls, revtex.cls, aastex.cls or amsart.cls. Please remove all personal macros, and avoid loading non-standard packages. All textual material of the paper (including tables, figure captions, online methods, etc.) should be in electronic form, as a single file. Graphics should not be called during compilation; they should be supplied individually according to the guidelines on figure preparation below. There is no need to spend time visually formatting the manuscript. Please use numerical citation styles only and ensure that the citations are numbered according to the order they appear in the text (not alphabetically). References should be included within the manuscript file itself. Authors who wish to use BibTeX to prepare their references should copy the reference list from the .bbl file that BibTeX generates and paste it into the main manuscript .tex file (and delete the associated \bibliography and \bibliographystyle commands). As a final precaution, authors should ensure that the complete .tex file compiles successfully on their own system with no errors or warnings, before submission.

Text is an integral part of nearly every publication. QuarkXPress lets you create and edit text directly in your publications or import text from most popular word processing applications. In addition to the standard text formatting and editing features, QuarkXPress includes such features as finding and changing text and its attributes, spell checking, custom spelling dictionaries, and a font usage utility for making project-wide changes to text formatting.

If all the imported text does not fit in the text box, the overflow symbol displays. After importing text into a box, you can choose Fit Box to Text from the context menu (or Item menu). If Auto Page Insertion (QuarkXPress/Edit > Preferences > Print Layout > General pane) is enabled, pages are inserted (when you import text into an automatic text box) as necessary to contain the text.

Character Format: Choose Inherit From Marker Style to retain the styling applied on the footnote/endnote reference number. To associate a different character styling with the footnote/endnote marker, choose a character style sheet from a list of character style sheets available in the Character Format drop-down menu. To create a character style sheet, see "Creating and Editing Character Style Sheets".

If you choose the Word option, spell check with check the spelling of the current word. If you choose the Selection option, spell check will check the spelling of the text of that selection. If you choose the Story option, spell check will check the spelling of the entire active story from the current cursor onwards. In case the cursor is middle of a story, the Check story will spell check from that position onwards till the end of the story and then spell check from the start of the story till the current cursor position. Similar to the Story option, the End of Story option will check the spelling for the active story from the current cursor onwards, but if the cursor is in the middle of the story, it will only spell check till the end of the story.

To replace a misspelled word, type the correct spelling in the Replace With field or choose the correct word from the list, then click Replace. To replace all occurrences of the misspelled word, click Replace All.

To display a count of the words and characters in a layout, story or selection choose an option from the Utilities > Word and Character Count submenu: Layout or Story or Selection. The Story and Selection options will only be available if there is a story selected.

In order to address these issues and to have a more predictable user interface, the Plain, Bold and Italic buttons have been removed from the user interface. Now, there are separate font family and font style menus. The user needs to change the font style from the font style menu. In order to retain the legacy behavior for the users who applied font style through key commands, the key commands to apply bold/italics have been retained.

If you enter a value in a blank field, that value will be applied to all the selected text. If you check or uncheck a gray check box, that style setting will be applied to or removed from all selected text.

Length: Choose one of the following options from the drop-down: Indents (text shading will be applied to the entire line between the defined indents), Text (text shading will be applied only the length of the text in each line), or Column (shading will be applied to the entire length of the box).
