I wanted to be sure to let this interest group know that I did follow up with the 20+ folks who added their resumes to the binder that sat on our registration table.
I've begun a group on Linked-In because it's a place where most job-seekers have already posted their resume information online. My intention, once the group is formed, is to share the group link with stations and media organizations and invite them to draw from our pubcamp talent pool when looking for per diems, freelancers or collaborators.
Below is note that went out to those who shared their resume. Of course if you have advice or feedback, I am all ears. Please share the Linked In group url with anyone who you think would be interested in straight-up networking. ~Annie
Dear Boston pubcampers,
I'm so glad you were able to attend PubMediaCamp Boston 2010. Thanks
for adding your resume to our Binder O'Talent. I hope you found time to
network with the incredible people who came and that you caught some
inspiration from hearing what other media makers are up to.
This email--and I promise not to spam you, this is just to follow
up--is an invitation to create an electronic networking space for those
of you who already showed an interest in finding gigs, or talent, at
the pubcamp.
Since I don't have the liberty to share or post your resume
information, one great way to connect your resume details online with
the people who matter is through a
Linked-In group. (Don't have a Linked-In profile? Email me and I'll help you get started.) Here's my plan: please join me as a member of
PublicMediaCamp Boston Network.
Once we're all connected, I will share our group link with any other
pubcamp attendees who may be interested in taking a look at our
group--and your resumes!
Consider this to be in the same informal style as the pubcamp it spins
out of: you can post messages to the group without wearing formal
business attire. Please share your news and tell us about events you
might attend--maybe we'll join you! This is a place to support others
and actively build teams that can make great things together. If
connections, jobs, marriages or babies come out of our membership, I
hope you'll share that with us, too!
Your humble and pubcampy moderator,
Annie Shreffler
PS: Other groups have formed around specific sessions that took place
at pubcamp (one around ideas for advocacy to expand the mandate and
funding of public media; one about linked, multi-dimensional coverage
of a local event and one on "Social Media on the Job Market"). An
invitation to join them was sent out in a follow-up email from
Eventbrite, asking you to fill out a pubcamp survey. If you are
interested in networking with those groups, tell me and I will put you
in touch with the organizers.
