Some home business owners love nothing better than to set their alarm for 6am and get up to start work nice and early. This gives them a good jump over their competitors on the day and stands them in good stead when it comes to finishing at a reasonable time later on in the evening.
Other home business owners dont set the alarm. They get up when they wake up: wanting to take full advantage of the fact they work for themselves. But this sometimes means they will finish later in the day than their early rising counterparts.
So who is right? Which method is best if you are going to start working from home and you are wondering which hours to work?
The first thing you have to understand is that the right answer for you may not be the right answer for someone else. The point is that when you are an employee you have to stick by someone elses schedule. If that means working from 9am to 5pm, then that is what you must do.
When you work for yourself you can pay closer attention to your own body clock. If your clock demands you should be up early, get up at 6am if it suits you. If you find you cannot function at that hour you may as well sleep in until you feel more human. There are plenty of home business owners who only start work when it gets to around 1pm in the afternoon. They then work right through until midnight or later before turning in. If that works for you, it is the best way to make progress.
An early start can still be useful in many cases though, particularly if you have a lot of clients to catch up with or you have a deadline to meet that day. The sooner you start the more time you are giving yourself to finish the work. If no one interrupts you or calls for a consultation of any kind, you may well have plenty of time to finish. But supposing something happens that requires your immediate attention?
If this should occur you will end up worrying about meeting the deadline and running short on time. This can compromise your work standards and it will also make you feel more stressed. Isnt the whole point of working for yourself to make sure you have more quality time and less stress?
As you can see it is vital to consider your start time each day. If you are wondering when the best starting time would be for you, forget your alarm and start when you wake up.
If you find that too easy, set your alarm for an hour earlier the next day. Keep going back until you find the ideal time to start the day for you. It could be more difficult in the winter months when it is darker, but there is also something special about being the early bird!
Try it for yourself and see.
