But very few are able to crack it. Many of the students who dont get selected, try next year. The chance of clearing CAT is remote but its not imposible.

Pattern Of CAT

There is an online written test of CAT comprising of 180 questions. The questions to be attempted are 100.Amonst them, 34 from Quantitative Ability, 34 from Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension and 32 from Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning. There is no negative marking for subjective questions but there is negative marking on MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions). As it is an online test conducted in multiple cities during a window of 3-4 weeks, aspirant can select his test date and slot as per his choice and availability.

The strategies that will help a student to prepare for CAT in an effective manner are as following:

1.Appear for several Mock Tests

It is essential for a candidate to appear for many mock tests. They will help to reveal his strong and weak areas. Knowing his weak areas , candidate can focus on those areas.. Also he will learn about the Time Management. Time Management is an important aspect of CAT exam. The more he will practice , the better he will become. The idea is to know whether the score of the candidate is increasing with every mock test or not.

2.Prepare for Coaching

Going for coaching in a reputed institute might be a good idea to get success in CAT exam. They will provide proper guidance and help to appear in the test. But before joining any coaching , do a background check of the institute to understand how successful their past students have been in qualifying in CAT.

3.Reading Newspapers and updating current affairs

The CAT aspirant should regularly read newspapers. It especially includes business papers like Economic Times and Business Standard . It will help them to keep themselves updated with the happenings in the world of business and also the political and social developments. It will help also them to have self confidence and fare well in the GD (Group Discussion) round and Personal Interview (PI).

4.Read Books

Reading is essential for the CAT aspirants. The candidates must read autobiographies of business leaders and books on business strategy to help them and answer question in the Personal Interview (PI) round. They can also refer good books on CAT preparation like “How to Prepare for Quantitative Aptitude” for the CAT by Arun Sharma and “The Pearson Guide to Quantitative Aptitude for CAT" by Nishit Sinha.

Getting a good score in CAT is not impossible. It actually requires dedicated effort of over six to nine months. The efforts have to be in the right direction.
