1. support for a new project by Etienne Turpin, Stainlessness

STAINLESSNESS Etienne Turpin

To support the book Stainlessness (to be published by Journal of Aesthetics and Protest Press) Sound & Language Distribution is pleased to announce the release of a Limited Edition set of artists' prints.
The prints tell the story of labor movements in North America and show how they have shaped the cities of Sudbury, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Detroit. While processes of urbanization have all but erased these struggles from our cities and left only ambivalent monuments to mark the past, these prints assert the centrality of labor as a force capable of transforming the nature of cities, the culture of America, and the geologic deep-time marked by the Anthropocene.

The limited edition prints are designed by Etienne Turpin with the graphic office Captains of Industry, and printed at the Cranbrook with the artists Sara Dean and Marnie Briggs.

For more information,  see Sound and Language Distribution
or contact Journal of Aesthetics and Protest (thatswhosentyouthisemail)

4 original signed and numbered prints (Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Sudbury)
+ dimensions: approximately 26” x 26” per print

Etienne Turpin is, itinerantly, a teacher, writer, editor and curator. Currently, he is a Research Fellow at the University of Michigan's Center for Southeast Asian Studies and lecturer in architecture at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. He is a principal investigator of Architecture + Adaptation: Design for Hypercomplexity and a founding editor of SCAPEGOAT: Architecture | Landscape | Political Economy.

The Germany-based arts organization HALLE14 conducted an interview with Etienne about the Stainlessness project; a transcript of the interview, which explains the ambition of the project in greater detail, is available online:

2. new books- part of the summer reading list
    a. The Neoliberal Undead by Marc J. Leger (Zero Books) link

Frequent Aesthetics & Protest contributor Marc J. Leger has released The Neoliberal Undead.
"What role does culture play in this world of markets and how do new contestatory forms enable a leftist solidarity that can move cultural radicalism beyond the postmodern obsession with new subjectivities? Rather than become the symptoms of democratic materialism, signing up for endless culture wars, The Neoliberal Undead argues for a rethinking of radical cultural leftism against the terms of the dominant global situation."

2   b. Biohackers by Alessandro Delfanti (Pluto Press) link

"Hacking, most often associated with the realm of bits and bytes, is now firmly entrenched in the world of biology. Alessandro Delfanti provides the definitive account covering the early, formative history of bio-hackers, a motley cohort of scientists, entrepreneurs, and amateur tinkers who are insisting on openness for their scientific enterprise.
