Hi all -
I saw that the Google Earth Outreach Developer Grants for 2012 have been
announced. They are due by August 1. I thought this might be of interest
to PLOTS or other folks doing and supporting aerial mapping. Details can
be found at:

Google Earth Outreach Developer Grants 2012
Announcing Google Earth Developer Grants 2012! Deadline Aug 1, 2012.
Apply today!
Google Earth Outreach is offering Developer Grants to nonprofit
organizations who are looking for funding for a map project. The grants
will support the development of selected projects from eligible
nonprofit organizations that are using Googles mapping technologies in
novel, cutting-edge ways to make the world a better place. The average
range of grants given will be between $10,000 and $20,000, but funding
requests may be above or below this average.
These grants will be issued through an open application process - public
charitable organizations with a compelling idea about how maps can help
them be more effective, and that meet our eligibility criteria, may
apply. From the pool of applicants, a handful will be selected as
finalists, and asked to submit more detail about their project, as well
as show proof that they have selected a developer in the form of a
Statement of Work (SOW). The SOW defines the work activities,
deliverables, timeline, and pricing agreed upon between the developer
and the nonprofit organization. The developer may be in-house or we can
point you to resources to find developers if needed. These project
details and Statements of Work will be used to choose the final
organizations who will receive funding. The funding will be issued
through grant recommendations from the Google.org Fund of Tides Foundation.
To find recommended developers that have published mapping projects for
public benefit causes (including some of the same developers who helped
make the below projects possible), check out our Developer Marketplace.
Google Earth Outreach Developer Grant Goals
Over the past several years, amazing maps have been created from the
public benefit sector in key areas, including environmental
conservation, human rights, public health, and more! We hope the Google
Earth Outreach Developer Grants will spur the development of some more
stellar examples of how Google mapping technologies can help non-profits
in their work. There are many great examples at the Google Earth
Outreach Showcase, and take a look at the projects that were awarded
2011 Developer Grants.
