Subject: [liberationtech] Vote for OpenIR (infrared satellite proj serving Indonesia)
Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2012 16:12:49 -0400

Dear Liberation Tech,

I'm in a group based in Brooklyn and Cambridge (USA) that's applying for funding to develop OpenIR, a web platform and app to process and interpret environmental infrared satellite data. Our initial study area is Indonesia because of its environmental vulnerability and great mapping initiatives. I'd like to invite you all to vote for the project!

A double haiku follows.
Thanks!

indeed! I'm on their board of advisors and I think Arlene emailed the grassroots mapping list yesterday. I'm hoping to engage them a bit on creating infrared interpretation guidelines, especially since at least 14 people will soon be out collecting infrared aerial photos and wanting to know what to do with them...

Exciting to see those boxes of dual cameras ready to ship Jeff!

Isn't it true that MapKnitter now includes a button to composite a layer of visible imagery with a layer of infrared imagery?

Interpretation guidelines would be great, and i can imagine a lot of "plant people" (inc. landscape architects, foresters, farmers, etc) who conduct ground surveys and are starting to collect their own aerial imagery being very interested in helping shape such guidelines.

yes but it's a bit buggy and could use some more intuitive interface.

Yeah it was great to see your work so far! So far there's a document up about the background/theory here: http://publiclaboratory.org/wiki/ndvi-plots-ir-camera-kit

and we haven't started this page yet:
