Data Centers are promised for the future. Protections for our safety, health, and environment are critical. Please open up a link to more information that will help you learn about data centers and the advances of tech in our communities locally, regionally, statewide, and nationally.

Sierra Club and a number of other environmental groups in WI and nationally have sponsored informational meetings about the influx of Data Centers in WI and around the country. It is anticipated that they will pose problems health-wise, environmentally, and with pocketbook expenses to entire communities including families. High volume use of water and air and water quality bring back memories of the issues posed by mining frac sand. It is imperative that standards and ordinances be developed by municipalities, towns, counties, regions, villages and the State of Wisconsin that include the use of sustainable energy sources rather than natural gas, methane gas, diesel, coal, and nuclear energy which will add more to global climate issues and/or environmental concerns. Take a look at the videos, the slides, and also participate in letter writing and/or speaking at the hearings which will be coming up this month. Think about your future and that of your kids and grandchildren.

A hearing on the Chippewa Co., WI Comprehensive Plan will be held on February 23, 2026. A link to the plan is included in the Frac Sand Sentinel along with the details. There seems to be no mention of the encroachment of Data Centers to the County and planning and zoning and the county board must seriously look at ways to prevent this encroachment. Please comment and feel free to share this information with your friends, neighbors and family.

This is an ALERT about the potential for a DATA Center in Chippewa/Barron Counties. I have been enlightened by at least 2 separate sources..
Please share the information widely!!
This is a note from Sierra Club's Exec. Director: "If you hear of a data center proposed in a territory for a utility coop, please let me know and make it clear to residents that this could be devastating for the utility. With the amount of power that would be needed, Coop customers' rates could skyrocket, as they aren't set up to do large-load tariffs and aren't regulated by the PSC. We are working to track down resources for coops and coop members, if this happens, but in the meantime, please let people know that if they hear of a proposal in coop territory to let you know."
Phone calls are welcome. Pat Popple (715-723-6398) and I will pass the word on to Sierra Club. They and other environmental groups have been doing a terrific job in assisting groups!
