Pues si realmente hubiera algún problema con MaríaDB, las distribuciones Linux más importantes (RedHat, Ubuntu, etc) no estarían migrando a la misma y dejando a MySQL, que además está siendo recortada y desdocumentada por Oracle.

Además los creadores de MySQL son los que están trabajando y manteniendo MaríaDB, lo que le da más fiabilidad.

Me parece que hay demasiado desconocimiento del tema como para opinar tanto.

Aquí está la información necesaria para saber que es, como se mantienen, Soporte, etc.

Parece que MariaDB es prometedor:


La importancia de esta alternativa se hace más obvia cuando se comenta que Oracle ha decidido convertir a MySQL en un programa de código cerrado.

Entonces, Maria DB en realidad es la manera en que los programadores decidieron proteger la cualidad open source del DBMS más popular del mundo. Y ha tenido impactos. A finales del año pasado, Wikipedia (o el 6to site más visitado en el mundo) decidió comenzar a migrar sus bases de datos a Maria DB, planteándose migrar todo el proyecto de Wikipedia en inglés para mediados de este año.
