Subject: [PSA4] Deputy Chief Kozicki To Address Present & Future of Community Policing in Oakland

Hello Everyone,

There will be a Neighborhood Watch Steering Committee Meeting on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at City Hall, 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza, in Hearing Room 4.  All Neighborhood Watch and Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council participants, and anyone active in Neighborhood Groups, are invited to attend this important event.

Our guest speaker this month is Deputy Police Chief Dave Kozicki, Bureau of Field Operations, Oakland Police Department, who will address the present and future of Community Policing in Oakland.  Simply put, Community Policing is a policing strategy and philosphy based on the proven notion that community interraction and support helps control crime, with community members helping to identify suspects and bring a full range of crime problems to the attention of police.  This is the primary function of our Neighborhood Watch Groups and our Neighborhood Crime Prevention Councils in Oakland - to help the police control crime.

As Chief of Field Operations, Deputy Police Chief Kozicki commands most of the Oakland Police Department's resources which impact police and traffic enforcement operations, and Community Policing, in Oakland.  This will be an outstanding opportunity for you to hear Deputy Chief Kozicki address the present and the future of Community Policing in Oakland, and for you to give him feedback and share ideas for changes in Community Policing.

Please RSVP to attend this meeting.  You may send an RSVP to Felicia Verdin at fverdin@oaklandnet.com or you may contact Felicia at 238-3128.  Validated parking in the Clay Street Garage at 14th and Clay Streets is provided.  Please bring your parking stub to the meeting for validation.
