Thank you Rejoyce for extending this welcoming gesture, and for it being shared by others,
I know the District and NCPC boundaries are awkward around 580. I want to make sure that Raylene, Meredith and any of your neighbors know you are welcome to participate with the 22X NCPC to share your concerns and find solutions. The 22X By-laws were written to include all people connected to the area with the understanding that people identify with a neighborhood in various ways and that crime does not begin or end at an artificial boundary.
22X just voted to make the Assaults, and Drug offenses of the MacArthur-Boston-Palmetto blocks one of the top priorities. With similar problems on the south end of Boston (near School St. and Fruitvale Elem) a collaborative effort should be made by residents, PSOs, and NSCs, to effectively address current crime and create a long term solution.
Partnerships with 22X and 21Y do exist but could be strengthened, especially around safety issues in the Dimond portion of 21Y. Communication between NCPCs is typically week across the City and has only recently been broadly addressed through the formation of UNCO (United Neighborhood Councils of Oakland), in which both 22X and 21Y are active. I hope we can make a more immediate partnership to focus on this up swell of violence in the neighborhoods paralleling Boston and Champion.
Depuity Chief Kozicki will be speaking in Dimond, Tuesday May 12th, 7pm at
the Dimond Library. He will speak on the role of OPD in community policing and take questions submitted from the audience. Please extend the invitation to friends and neighbors. Representatives from 21Y are always welcome and we can work on addressing the problems that straddle the boundary, hopefully with twice the police attention.
Thanks for your successful involvement,
Daniel
