Unable to Link from GM4 to Word97

I'm trying to install the Word97 Goldmine 4.0 link so that users may
automate importing Name&Address and other pertinent info into a word
document.

I installed the GM4W8.doc - "Link to Word 97" and it resulted in installing
successfully. Now when opening doing a merge in goldmine, selecting the
appropriate *.doc form, it opens up in Word97, but will automatically insert
the contact's Name, Address and pertinent client data.

I close the document and it asks if i want to save it. Even though i made
no changes to it (did nothing at all), i say "NO" and don't save it.

it spurts out an error - " Unable to link document."

it appears that it installed successfully, but won't merge the fielded data
into the word template.

any suggestions?
