Dear Prof. Andy Remus Marius Chirculescu,

This is Loredana Cîrstea, a 6th year student at U.M.F. “Carol Davila”, Bucharest and Project Manager for the Sapiens Mapping Project (SMP) regarding the terminologies issued by FIPAT (http://www.ifaa.net/index.php/fipat). My CV can be viewed at http://sliced.ro/docs/docs/CVvar2.1.pdf .

I was informed by Christian Tzurcanu (SMP Leader) that you are willing to help the terminology project. Please let me know what terminologies are you interested in (Terminologia Anatomica / Embryologica / Histologica ).

I am currently working on Terminologia Histologica (TH), researching the Romanian translations of the terms in current publications (published after year 2000). Afterwards, specialised histological advice will be needed and requested. The next step after this will be peer review from FIPAT members.

Coordinator: Conf. Univ. Dr. Luminița Iliuță, Head of the “Medical Informatics and Biostatistics” Department at U.M.F. “Carol Davila”

Tutor: Asist. Univ. Dr. Marius Rac-Albu from the “Medical Informatics and Biostatistics” Department

I have finished a draft translation of the Terminologia Anatomica (TA) for usage in the SMP, in our atlas (http://sliced.ro/smp/nav2d.php#0.406/-4.349/-62.121) based on the Visible Korean Human (VKH) with labels connected to Terminologia Anatomica. We have marked the Romanian translation as unofficial. However, after perfecting the protocol for TH, I will also apply it to TA and TE: current publications -> histologists -> FIPAT members.

There may be questions about a student’s capability in this scientific matter. My contribution is the actual protocol and the initial research of the Romanian terms. I am always open to suggestions regarding the protocol (see Thesis methods). As for the term research, I think any medical student should be able to do this, especially after having completed the Histology and Cellular Biology courses - therefore, after the 2nd year of Medical School. Any mistakes or problems would be resolved in the following steps by specialists, but their time spent on this will be greatly reduced.

Due to the fact that my thesis and following scientific pursuits on the terminologies subject are open to public scrutiny, all collaboration and communication in this regard will be transparent. The email transparency is ensured by adding it to a public group (public-...@googlegroups.com). If you will reply, please choose Reply All, so that the group will be added automatically.

Respectfully,

Loredana Cîrstea.
