Concluzii și întrebări legate de evaluarea lucrării de licență

Către Comisia 9 de evaluare a lucrărilor de licență pentru Sănătate Publică, Igienă, Marketing, Informatică, Medicină de Familie, Medicina Muncii, reprezentată de Prof. Univ. Dr. Dana Mincă (președintele comisiei), Prof.Univ. Dr. Eugenia Naghi, Conf.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcărea, Conf.Dr Anca Moldoveanu, Conf.Univ.Dr. Florentina-Ligia Furtunescu, Secretar comisie Asist.Univ.Dr. Irina Eclemea,

Sunt Loredana Cîrstea și vă scriu concluziile personale ale evaluării lucrării mele de licență cu numele de “Algoritm de traducere în limba română pentru Terminologia Histologica și utilitare de mentenanță pentru un vocabular controlat”, ce a avut loc pe 22 septembrie, între orele 10:40 și 11:10.

Concluziile legate de organizare:

1. Nu se respectă timpul comisiei și al studenților:

1. Am ajuns la ora 09:45, cu jumătate de oră mai devreme decât ora de prezentare (10:15), precum ne-a fost indicat. Camera 203, unde avea loc prezentarea era încuiată. La ora 10:00 a fost descuiată ușa de către doamnele secretare (ora 10:00 fiind ora de începere a examenului oral pentru primul student înscris), dar computerul ce trebuia utilizat pentru prezentări nu funcționa. Deoarece voiam să verific dacă video-ul meu de prezentare funcționează și să nu pierd din timpul comisiei și al studenților, m-am oferit să instalez computerul și proiectorul personal, în paralel, deși am menționat că am video-ul pe un hard disk extern ce putea fi citit de computerul comisiei. Nu mi-a fost permis acest lucru, spunându-mi-se “Nu, nu, deci când vă vine rândul, veniți și vorbiți cu comisia”. Întrebând de ce nu se poate să instalez computerul și proiectorul, mi s-a răspuns: “Deci știți ce vă rog, intrați în sala cealaltă. Eu sunt secretarul de comisie. Sunteți a doua. Nu sunteți prima, da?. Așteptați dincolo și vă chemăm noi. Da? Deci deocamdată avem niște probleme, da?”. După 10-15 minute mi s-a permis să montez computerul și proiectorul în camera de așteptare a studenților, lângă camera 203 unde se desfășura evaluarea studentului.

2. Evaluarea mea a început la ora 10:40, în loc de ora 10:15, durând 30 de minute, în loc de cele 15 minute anunțate, decalând programările celorlalți studenți. Personal, m-am oferit de la început să rămân peste terminarea programului de evaluări în cazul în care comisia nu ar avea timp să pună toate întrebările.

2. Nu se respectă faptul că susținerea licenței este publică și nu se respectă transparența procesului de evaluare.

1. Desfășurarea evaluării se realizează cu ușile închise, între comisie și studentul singur, fără martori. Acest lucru, combinat cu faptul că Art.33, P.6 din Regulamentul examenului de licență menționează că “Rezultatele obţinute la susţinerea lucrării de licenţă nu pot fi contestate” duce la imposibilitatea verificării corectitudinii evaluării, netransparența procesului și la imposibilitatea corectării eventualelor greșeli de procedură. În cazul meu personal, am insistat ca studenții ce așteptau evaluarea să asiste la prezentarea mea, după ce aștia au fost scoși din sala în care mi s-a permis montarea computerului și proiectorului meu, de către Președintele comisiei. Inițial nu mi s-a răspuns de ce este nevoie să iasă din sală, atâta timp cât examenul este unul public iar eu doresc să am public, dar la repetarea întrebării către Conf.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcărea, acesta a reinvitat studenții în sală.

2. Președintele comisiei a insistat pe un ton dur ca toate telefoanele să fie închise, cu repetarea cuvântului “închise” - deci nu doar puse pe un mod silențios pentru a nu deranja -, după ce a întrebat dacă studenții sunt susținătorii mei sau doar așteaptă să fie evaluați. Am fost întrebată și personal de către Conf.Univ.Dr. Florentina-Ligia Furtunescu dacă eu am telefonul închis. Nu văd altă motivație pentru această insistență decât faptul că nu s-a dorit înregistrarea procesului. Aștept motivația oficială.

3. După terminarea prezentării mele, Președintele comisiei a dispus mutarea comisiei în sala 203 pentru a continua evaluarea cu ușile închise, fără public.

4. Am precizat ca doresc să mi se ofere în scris notele obținute conform baremului de evaluare. Președintele comisiei mi-a răspuns că doar prin cerere scrisă la Decanat și Rectorat se

Concluzii legate de procesul academic al evaluării lucrării de licență:

1. Comisia nu a demonstrat faptul că a citit și înțeles lucrarea mea de licență.

1. În prezentarea lucrării a fost introdusă o greșeală foarte evidentă pentru cunoscătorii domeniului de bioinformatică semantică, de definiție a unui concept de bază. Comisia nu a sesizat greșeala.

2. Singura întrebare pusă de către comisie, prin Conf.Univ.Dr. Florentina-Ligia Furtunescu, a fost “Cum sperați să utilizați în practică software-ul pe care îl propuneți?”. Răspunsul la această întrebare exista deja în lucrarea de licență în subcapitolele 8.3.3. “Efectele computabilității”, 8.4. “Recomandări de extensie” și în “Concluzii”. Nu au fost puse alte întrebări legate de metodele utilizate pentru crearea algoritmului de traducere.

3. La întrebarea “N-ați încercat să vă simplificați munca printr-o modelare matematică?” - Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea - am afirmat că “Din ce am văzut pentru limbajul R, nu există nimic făcut pentru analiza aceasta calitativă.” Mi s-a răspuns (de către Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea și Președintele comisiei) că sunt făcute destul de multe algoritme pentru conversie. Doresc ca domnul Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea să mă direcționeze către informații despre acestea, pentru informare suplimentară.

4. Domnul Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea a afirmat: “Nu, dacă îmi permiteți ... au fost de la Medicină doar termenii. Este o lucrare a unui student de la Calculatoare.” Pentru răspunsul la această întrebare îl rog pe domnul Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea să citească exemplul de la pagina 22 a lucrării în care este prezentată o lucrare a realizată de trei medici din Spitalul Universitar din Geneva, care are puncte asemănătoare cu lucrarea mea. Adițional, IFAA (Federația Internațională a Asociațiilor de Anatomiști) este în procesul transformării terminologiilor sale în ontologii, realizând procese de tipul celui pe care l-am realizat eu în lucrare. Cu alte cuvinte, îl rog pe domnul Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea să recunoască subdomeniul bioinformaticii semantice introdus în cadrul Informaticii Medicale în spațiul din afara țării.

5. Președintele comisiei a afirmat: “Pe mine nu m-a convins conținutul medical al lucrării, dar din moment ce un conferențiar din universitate a acceptat-o ca valoroasă, asta este un argument în favoarea dumneavoastră.” Ceea ce denotă lipsa pregătirii necesare pentru a evalua lucrarea mea de licență, bazându-se pe opinia coordonatorului lucrării, exprimată în referatul scris.

2. Metoda de evaluare prezentă verifică doar respectarea recomandărilor de redactare, capacitatea de analiză și sinteză, calitatea bibliografiei, calitatea expunerii orale și a materiarului de prezentare.

1. Respectarea recomandărilor de redactare a lucrării de licență

1. Am analizat problemele acestor recomandări în lucrarea de licență, Anexa 5- “Relevanța actuală a regulilor de publicare și prezentare a lucrării de diplomă”, pagina 96.

2. Calitatea expunerii orale și a materiarului de prezentare

1. Domnul Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea și Președintele comisiei au afirmat că prezentarea mea nu a fost una orală.

2. Fișa de evaluare menționează exact cuvintele: “Calitatea expunerii orale”.

3. Din definiția cuvântului “oral”: “Care se transmite verbal, prin viu grai, care caracterizează vorbirea (în opoziție cu limba scrisă). (despre examene:) Care se desfășoară prin întrebări și răspunsuri expuse verbal.” (DEX 2009, http://dexonline.ro/definitie/oral )

4. O prezentare obișnuită a studenților constă în proiectarea de slide-uri și comentarea lor orală.

5. Prezentarea mea a constat din prezentarea unui video și comentarea lui orală, chiar dacă aceste comentarii au fost înregistrate. Prin urmare, expunerea a conținut și o parte orală (nu scrisă). În plus, partea de întrebări (din partea Comisiei) și răspunsuri (din partea mea) ar fi trebuit să clarifice orice alte probleme, fiind tot expunere orală.

3. Sunt prezente probleme de etică medicală în modul de alcătuire al comisiei:

1. Într-o comisie este problematică punerea pe aceeași treaptă de importanță notele primite de la persoane cu niveluri diferite de pregătire academică.

2. Într-o comisie este problematică coexistența subalternilor și a superiorilor acestora, dacă nu există dovada transparentă a neinfluențării subalternilor de către superiori și invers.

3. Într-o comisie este problematică existența unui contact anterior în defavoarea celui evaluat, cu un membru al comisiei, dacă nu există dovada imparțialității.

1. Domnul Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea, vă readuc aminte cuvintele dumneavoastră, adresate mie în scris în discuții anterioare (ce pot fi vizualizate aici: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/public-witness/FEmrrwfFJ5k/87Q9bnNK5ykJ ): “3.Afirmatia ta:"Vă rog să citiți emailul anterior, fiindcă nu putem începe o colaborare altfel decât într-un mod transparent. .....Putem stabili și o întâlnire ulterior, în condițiile în care tot ce se discută despre proiect va fi trecut în scris și trimis pe email, la sfârșitul întâlnirii" , ma determina sa nu doresc sa mai avem aceasta intalnire.” , precum și: “Domnisoara studenta Loredana Cirstea, Nu cred ca ati inteles. Eu, nu mai doresc sa va cunosc. (...) Corespondenta noastra ulterioara m-a edificat pe deplin .”

2. Consider că domnul Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea, pentru a demonstra imparțialitatea, ar fi trebuit să se recuze el însuși din Comisie pentru lucrarea mea. În acest caz, aș fi putut admite ca domnul Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea să rămână ca evaluator.

4. Într-o comisie este problematică existența membrilor ce îndeplinesc în același timp statutul de coordonator al lucrărilor de licență prezentate. În acest caz, toți membrii comisiei au avut și statut de coordonatori ai altor lucrări de licență.

Concluzii legate de procesul de coordonare a lucrării de licență:

1. Coordonatorul și îndrumătorul lucrării mele de licență - Conf.Univ.Dr. Luminița Iliuță, Asist.Univ.Dr. Marius-Rac Albu nu au avut nici o contribuție propriu-zisă în procesul de creație al lucrării de licență și nici în procesul de concepere.

2. Aceștia nu au fost prezenți la procesul de evaluare al lucrării, deși în regulament este recomandat acest lucru.

3. Aceștia nu au dovedit citirea și înțelegerea lucrării mele de licență, precum am demonstrat în răspunsul dat referatului scris de Conf.Univ.Dr. Luminița Iliuță, pe care l-am dorit atașat acelui referat, exprimând această opțiune și în scris. 4. În concluzie, din moment ce lucrarea mea a fost realizată fără aportul coordonatorului și al îndrumătorului, de ce realizarea lucrării de licență este condiționată de existența unui coordonator? Mai mult, din moment ce facultatea nu poate ține pasul cu subdomeniile nou-apărute - cum este cel de bioinformatică semantică - în domeniul Medicinei și nu poate oferi specialiști care să coordoneze lucrări pe aceste domenii, de ce nu este permisă realizarea unei lucrări fără coordonatori și eventual, trimiterea lucrării altor persoane din domeniul academic, care au pregătirea necesară evaluării. Menționez intenția mea de a realiza și prezenta lucrarea direct în limba engleză și faptul că mi s-a spus că acest lucru nu este posibil. Acest lucru ar fi permis trimiterea acesteia pentru evaluare și în afara României.

Concluzii legate de procesul de inovație a regulilor academice conform cu nevoile actuale ale studenților și conform cu posibilitățile tehnologice actuale:

1. Comisia a demonstrat reticență în reevaluarea regulamentelor universității, prin multiple afirmații:

1. Conf.Univ.Dr. Florentina-Ligia Furtunescu: “Sunt unele lucruri pe care le alegem și unele lucruri pe care le respectăm.”, “Trebuie să aveți respect pentru regulamente. Și noi avem respect pentru regulamente și și dumneavoastră, studenții trebuie să aveți respect. Așa a reușit această facultate să se mențină 150 de ani.”

2. Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea: “Domnișoara doctor, șofați? Și eu șofez. Vreau să vă spun că pe mine mă irită culoarea roșie. Înțelegeți? Și nu voiam să stau la roșu. Dar n-am încotro. “

3. Președintele Comisiei, Prof.Univ.Dr.Dana Mincă: “Din punctul dumneavoastră de vedere ghidul nu este adecvat. Bun, este ghidul acestei universități și toți suntem datori să-l respectăm”

2. Președintele comisiei a afirmat: “Dumneavoastră, după cum v-a recomandat domnul conferențiar, ar fi trebuit conținutul dezvoltat de exemplificare să-l prezentați într-o manifestare interdisciplinară, de tip conferință științifică, pentru că un 20 de minute v-ar fi avantajat mult mai mult decât 10 minute. Regulamentul de lucrări de diplomă prevede un pic altceva. Nu prevede dezvoltare și prezentare de tehnică în timpul prezentării. Iar pentru ceea ce ne-ați prezentat, o altă modalitate, făcând niște slide-uri mai prietenoase, ca să zic așa, v-ar fi avantajat, cu un pic de animație, de acord, v-ar fi avantajat mult mai mult.”

1. Regulamentul afirmă “Prezentarea lucrării de licenţă se face prin expunere orală publică, timp de maxim 10 minute, pe baza unui material creat de absolvent care trebuie să cuprindă cele mai importante aspecte ale lucrării.”

2. Nu există în regulament nici o precizare referitoare la “dezvoltare și prezentare de tehnică”. Dacă aceasta există, vă rog să mă îndrumați la sursa exactă a acesteia (link, număr articol, număr paragraf).

Întrebări pentru Comisia 9 și pentru Președintele Comisiei 9, Prof. Univ. Dr. Dana Mincă, la care doresc un răspuns public și scris, care să conțină integral și mesajul original:

1. De ce nu este realizată o evaluare transparentă - cu public sau cu camere de luat vederi (precum examenul de bacalaureat)?

2. De ce nu este permisă contestarea notei obținute la susținerea examenului de licență?

3. De ce a fost imperios necesară închiderea telefoanelor mobile și nu doar asigurarea că nu vor suna în timpul prezentării?

4. De ce a fost necesară mutarea înapoi în sala de evaluare, unde nu exista public, deci eu nu am avut martori la evaluare, așa cum am precizat expres la începutul examinării mele?

5. De ce este obligatoriu ca studentul să aibă coordonator atunci când acesta nu are pregătirea necesară pentru a coordona o temă?

6. De ce Comisia nu redirecționează o lucrare pe care nu o poate evalua din cauza faptului că nu are pregătirea academică necesară pentru acest lucru?

7. De ce nu este permisă scrierea și prezentarea lucrării în limba engleză, pentru studenții români?

8. Care a fost greșeala de definire a unui termen de bază în domeniul bioinformaticii semantice, existentă în prezentarea lucrării?

9. Care sunt sursele de informare pentru multiplii algoritmi de conversie existenți pentru analize calitative pentru limbajul R, menționați de Conf. Dr. Lorin Purcărea și Președintele comisiei?

10. Care au fost notele mele exacte, pe cele cinci puncte ale fișei de evaluare a lucrării de licență, de la fiecare membru al comisiei? La punctele la care punctajul nu a fost maxim, includeți vă rog motivele detaliate și clare pentru care mi-au fost scăzute punctele.

11. Unde va fi afișata lista cu toate notele studenților, în mod public, pe site-ul universității?

I am sending the English translation for my previous email from the 23rd of September:

To the 9th Committee for evaluating graduate theses in Public Health, Hygiene, Marketing, Medical Informatics, Family Medicine, Work Medicine, represented by Prof.Dr. Dana Minca (President of the Committee), Prof.Dr. Eugenia Naghi, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Anca Moldoveanu, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Florentina-Ligia Furtunescu, Teaching Assistant Dr. Irina Eclemea (Secretary of the Committee),

I am Loredana Cirstea and I am writing my personal conclusions about the evaluation of my graduate thesis titled “Algorithm of translation in the Romanian language for the Terminologia Histologica and APIs for a controlled vocabulary”, which took place on the 22nd of September, 10:40-11:10 AM.

Conclusions about the setup/organisation:

1. Lack of respect for the committee and students’ time:

1. I arrived at 09:45 AM, half an hour earlier than my presentation time (10:15 AM), as indicated. Room 203, where the presentation took place was locked. At 10:00 AM the door was opened by the secretaries (10:00 AM was the given time for the first presentation). However, the computer chosen for the presentations did not function properly. Wanting to verify my presentation video and not waste the Committee and students’ time, I offered to install my computer and projector in parallel, even though I already mentioned that I had the video on a hard-disk. I was not permitted: <No, no, when your time comes, you come and speak with the Committee> (personal translation Ro->En). I asked why couldn’t I install the computer and projector and I got the following answer: <You know what I am asking of you? Please go in the other room. I am the Committee Secretary. You are the second student. You are not the first one, ok? We have some problems now, ok?> (personal translation Ro->En). After 10-15 minutes I was permitted to install my computer and projector in the student waiting room, next to the evaluation room (203).

2. My evaluation started at 10:40 - not 10:15 -, spanning 30 minutes - not the announced 15 minutes -, offsetting the allocated times for the other students. I personally offered to remain after the last student if the committee did not have the necessary time to ask its questions.

2. Lack of respect for the fact that the presentation and defence of the thesis is public and lack of respect for the transparency of the evaluation process.

1. The evaluation is done behind closed doors, between the committee and the student - by oneself, without witnesses. This fact, combined with the fact that Art.33, P.6 from the guidelines for the graduation examination mentions that <the results obtained in the presentation and defence of the graduate thesis cannot be challenged> (personal translation Ro->En), leads to the impossibility to verify the correctness of evaluation, to the lack of transparency for the process and to the impossibility to correct the possible procedural mistakes. In my case, I insisted that the students awaiting their evaluation attend my presentation, after they were evacuated from the room in which I was permitted to install my computer and projector, by the President of the Committee. I initially did not get any answer to why it was necessary for them to leave, as long as the examination was public and I wanted to have an audience. When I repeated my question to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea, he re-invited the students in the room.

2. The President of the Committee insisted in a tough manner that all the telephones should be shut down, repeating the words “shut down”  - therefore, putting the telephones in a silent mode was not enough -, after asking if the students attending were my supporters or just students waiting for their evaluations. I was asked by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Florentina-Ligia Furtunescu if I had my telephone shut down. I do not see another reason for this than the unwillingness to let the process be recorded. I await for the official reason.

3. After my presentation, the President of the Committee asked the Committee members to move to Room 203 in order to continue the evaluation behind closed doors, without audience.

4. I specified that I wanted my evaluation grades in writing, according to the evaluation standards. The President of the Committee replied that this can only be done by written petition to the Dean’s Office or the Rector’s Office.

Conclusions about the academic process for evaluating the graduate theses:

1. The Committee has not demonstrated that they read and understood my graduate thesis.

1. In the presentation of my thesis I introduced a very clear mistake for those who know the semantic bioinformatics field, regarding a definition of a basic concept. The Committee did not pin down the mistake.

2. The only question asked by the Committee, through Assoc.Prof.Dr. Florentina-Ligia Furtunescu, was <How do you hope to use your proposed software?> (personal translation Ro->En). The answer to this question was already in the thesis under subchapters 8.3.3. “Computability effects”, 8.4. “Extension recommendations” and in “Conclusions”. No other questions were asked about the methods used for creating the translation algorithm.

3. To the question <Have you tried to simplify your work through mathematical modeling?> (personal translation Ro->En), asked by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea, I replied “From what I saw for the R language, there is nothing created for this type of qualitative analysis.” Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea and the President of the Committee replied that there is a multitude of algorithms for conversion. I wish to be guided by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea to information concerning these algorithms, for further research.

4. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea said: <No, if you permit … only the terms were from the medical field. It is a thesis from a Computer Science student.> (personal translation Ro->En). For the answer to this question I ask Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea to read my example from the 22nd page of the thesis, where I presented the work of three medical doctors from the University Hospital of Geneva, that has common points with my own paper. Additional, IFAA (International Federation of Associations of Anatomists) is in the process of transforming its terminologies into ontologies, by using processes similar to the ones I used in the thesis. In other words, I ask Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea to recognise the semantic bioinformatics sub-field introduced in the Medical Informatics field, outside our country’s borders.

5. The President of the Committee said: <I was not convinced by the medical content of the thesis however, being that an Associate Professor from the University has accepted it as valuable, it is an argument in your favour.> (personal translation Ro->En). This shows lack of the necessary knowledge to evaluate my graduate thesis, the President basing her decision on the opinion of the thesis’s coordinator, conveyed in the written referral.

2. The present evaluation method verifies only the compliance with the writing recommendations, the capacity for analysis, the quality of the bibliography, the quality of the oral presentation and of the presentation material.

1. I have analysed the issues with these recommendations in the thesis in Annex 5 - “The present relevance of the publication and presentation rules for the graduate thesis”, page 96.

2. The quality of the oral presentation and of the presentation material.

1. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea and the President of the Committee asserted that my presentation was not an oral one.

2. The evaluation datasheet mentions the exact words: <The quality of the oral presentation> (personal translation Ro->En).

3. From the definition of the word “oral”: <Which is transmitted verbally, by word of mouth, which characterises speech (on opposition with written language). (about examinations:) Which is carried on through questions and answers set forth verbally.> (personal translation Ro->En) (DEX 2009, http://dexonline.ro/definitie/oral )

4. A common student presentation consists in projecting slides and commenting them orally.

5. My presentation consisted in the presentation of a video and commenting it orally, even if these commentaries were recorded. Therefore, the presentation contained an oral part (not written). Additionally, the questions (from the Committee) and answers (from myself) part should have clarified any other problems - also an oral discourse.

3. There are medical ethics issues in the way the Committee was composed:

1. It is a problem if in a Committee people with different levels of academic training give grades with the same level of importance.

2. It is a problem if in a Committee the subordinates and their superiors coexist, if there is no transparent proof of non-influence between the subordinates and their superiors.

3. It is a problem if in a Committee there is a prior contact, unfavorable for the evaluated person, with a Committee member, if there is no proof of impartiality.

1. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea, I am reminding you of your words, addressed to me in writing in previous discussions (that can be viewed here: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/public-witness/FEmrrwfFJ5k/87Q9bnNK5ykJ ): <3. Your statement: “Please read my previous email, because we cannot start a collaboration other than in a transparent way. ......We can establish a meeting afterwards however, any discussions about the project will have to be written and sent by email, at the end of the meeting.”, is determining me to not desire this meeting.>, as well as: <Miss student Loredana Cirstea, I do not think you have understood. 2. I consider that Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea should have excluded himself from the Committee while evaluating my thesis, in order to demonstrate impartiality. In this case, I would have admitted Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcarea as an evaluator.

4. It is a problem if in a Committee there are members who are at the same time coordinators for the theses to be evaluated. In this case, all the Committee members have had the status of coordinators for other graduate theses.

Conclusions about the coordination process of the thesis:

1. The coordinator and tutor for my graduate thesis - Assoc.Prof.Dr. Luminita Iliuta and Teacher Assistant Dr. Marius-Rac Albu did not have any specific contribution in the creation process of my thesis nor in the conception process.

2. They were not present at the evaluation process of the thesis, even though it is recommended in the guidelines.

3. They did not demonstrate the reading and understanding of my thesis, as I have proven in my response to the referral written by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Luminita Iliuta, which I explicitly wished appended to the referral, clearly expressing this option in writing. 4. In conclusion, due to the fact that my thesis was done without any contribution from my coordinator and tutor, why does the creation of the thesis require the existence of a coordinator? Moreover, due to the fact that the Faculty cannot maintain pace with the new sub-fields - for example, the semantic bioinformatics one - in the medical field and cannot offer specialists for coordinating papers concerning them, why is there no permission for creating a thesis without coordinator and possibly for sending the thesis to other individuals from the academic field, with the necessary expertise. I mention my intention to create and present the thesis directly in English and the fact that I was told that this is not possible. This could have permitted an evaluation by sending the thesis even outside of Romania.

Conclusions about the innovation process of the academic guidelines in conformity with the present requirements of the students and in conformity with the present technological possibilities:

1. The Committee has demonstrated reluctance in reevaluating the University’s guidelines, through multiple affirmations:

1. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Florentina-Ligia Furtunescu: <There are some things that we choose and some things that we respect.> , <You should have respect for the guidelines. The President of the Committee said: <You should have, as recommended by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Victor Lorin Purcărea, presented the expanded content of exemplification in a interdisciplinary manifestation of the scientific conference type, due to the fact that 20 minutes would have been an advantage, as opposed to 10 minutes. The guidelines for the graduate thesis prefigures something else. It does not prefigure expansion and technical presentation during the presentation. And as for what you have presented to us, you would have had an advantage if you would have made the slides more friendlier, with a little animation, I agree.> (personal translation Ro->En)

1. The guidelines mention: <The graduate thesis presentation is made through a public oral presentation of a maximum of 10 minutes, on the basis of a material created by the graduate, which should contain the most important aspects of the paper.> (personal translation Ro->En)

2. There is nothing in the guidelines referring to <expansion and technical presentation>. If this exists, please direct me to the exact source (link, article number, paragraph number).

Questions for the 9th Committee and for the President of the 9th Committee, Prof.Dr. Dana Minca, for which I wish a public and written reply containing my original message in whole:

1. Why do you not make the evaluation in a transparent manner - with audience or video cameras (as the baccalaureate examination?)

2. Why do you not permit the contestation of the grade obtained when presenting and defending the thesis?

3. Why was it necessary to shut down all the mobile telephones and not just to ensure that they do not disturb the presentation?

4. Why was it necessary to revert to the evaluation room, where there was no audience - therefore I did not have witnesses for the evaluation, even though I clearly expressed this preference from the beginning?

5. Why is it mandatory that the student have a coordinator when the coordinator does not have the necessary expertise for the student’s chosen subject?

6. Why does the Committee not redirect a thesis when it does not have the necessary academic expertise to evaluate it?

7. Why is the writing and presentation of the thesis in English not permitted for Romanian students?

8. What was the definition error for a basic term from the semantic bioinformatics field, from the thesis presentation?

9. What are the sources of information for the multitude of algorithms of conversion for qualitative analysis, for the R language, mentioned by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Viorel Lorin Purcarea and by the President of the Committee?

10. What were my exact grades for the five points of the evaluation datasheet, from each member of the Committee? For the points where the maximum grade was not given, please include the clear and detailed reasons for which the grade was lower.

11. Where will the list with all the students’ grades be made public, on the University’s site?
